AFHQ OPERATION DIRECTIVE

  1. SITUATION

    To locate sites for Radar Gap Filler installations it is necessary to send Siting Teams to areas across Canada to reconnoiter and carry out survey work withing the perimeters of the electronic criteria.

    1. Enemy Forces. Nil
    2. Friendly Forces. Units of ADC - AMC - TC, ATC and USAF
    3. Attachments and Detachments - four siting teams (four officers per team)

  2. MISSION

    To establish sites for Radar Gap Fillers to tie into the existing Pinetree radar chain and prepare detailed reports of these locations for RCAF and USAF use.

  3. EXECUTION

    1. AMTS/CCE and VCAS/CTel shall be responsible for the control and co-ordination of the entire operation.

    2. Airlift. Helicopter airlift may be required by the siting teams. Subject to search and rescue operations receiving priority the AO'sC ADC, TC and ATC, shall provide helicopter air support.

    3. Time. The target date for completion of the operation is 1 Dec 59.

    Due to nature of the survey, a requirement for helicopter air support cannot be ascertained until teams are on site. Therefore, liaison is authorized between team captains and Search and Rescue Units at Vancouver, Winnipeg, Greenwood and #4 HOTU Trenton for air support, as required.

  4. ADMINISTRATION AND LOGISTICS

    1. AFHQ/DPC and USAF shall supply officers for four teams consisting of 1 - Tech/CE, 1 - Tech/Tel and USAF C&E personnel.

    2. Logistics. AMC shall supply vehicles and equipment to carry out this operation as authorized by AMTS/DVME and AMTS/DMS.
