MINISTER OF LANDS AND MINES
Province of New Brunswick
CANADA

The Government of the Province
of New Brunswick

FREDERICTON, NB

June 11, 1959

Mr JP Adam,
Regional Manager, Real Estate,
Department of Transport,
Room 44,
211 St Sacrament Street,
Montreal 1, Quebec.

Dear Mr Adam:

This will acknowledge your letter of June 8 re sites for Gap Filler stations.

The location at Scotch Settlement is now occupied by the NB Telephone Co and the Department of Public Works stations as well as the Department of Lands and Mines radio and lookout tower. The Department of Lands and Mines owns about 4 acres as shown on the enclosed return of survey. This will be your authority to enter on the Department of Lands and Mines property for testing purposes.

Access to Mount Carleton is over roads constructed by Fraser Companies on Crown lands under timber licence to them and a land which they own. Permission for access should be obtained from Mr VC Bastin, Manager, Lumber and Logging Department, Fraser Companies Ltd, Edmundston, NB. This will also be your authority ot enter on Crown land in the Mount Carleton area for testing purposes.

Permission for surveys and construction of roads and power lines over privately owned lands should be arranged with the owners. Both the Crown and Fraser Companies will be interested in construction over Crown land leading to Mount Carleton. Please contact this office again on the matter when your plans are sufficiently advanced.

Adequate measures to avoid interference with the Department's established radio communications and forest fire detection systems will be a matter for future discussion. If these are satisfactory permission to erect structures can be obtained for Mount Carleton. It seem probable that purchase of an additional area from the property owner will be desirable at Scotch Settlement.

Your very truly,

Normal B Buchanan,
Minister
