MEMORANDUM

22 Feb 61

Ref: 10-36-80/5 (DCEP) 23 Jan 61

DCEP/CEP 3-3

Standard Radar Bldg and Power and Accommodation Bldg
Gap Filler Radar Station

Further to the a/n reference of 23 Jan 61, the following is a list of answers to questions raised in the a/n memo and to further queries to this date:

  1. The design of the Regulated Power Panel will be as per USAF drawing AW-60-03-01 sheet 9 of 9 revision (e).

  2. The design of the Unregulated Power Panel will be as per USAF drawing AW-60-03-01 sheet 9 of 9 revision (e).

  3. The design of Panel "A" will be modified by CCE requirements to accept changes for Ventilating fans, heating, lighting and housekeeping load etc. Otherwise to be as USAF drawing AW-60-03-01 sheet 9 of 9 revision (e).

  4. Design of the Main Panel should reflect CCE design requirements.

  5. Since Panel "D" is an RCAF requirement its design is a CCE responsibility (see Appendix "E").

  6. Appendix "B" Heavy Power Wiring in a Gap Filler Bldg is attached for your information.

  7. The maximum electronic load is 58.35 KVA @ 0.93 power factor.

  8. Rotary Regulator characteristics are as per Appendix "C".

  9. In order that the Prime Radar Site be provided with an indication of Primary Power Supply transfer for the Gap Filler , a circuit providing a closed circuit condition in state (1) and open circuit condition in state (2) is required. The indication will be relayed to the Prime Radar Site via the FSW-1 unit. Specifically the following circuitry is required:

    1. Two circuits terminated in a box to be located adjacent to panel "A". The terminal box to be connected to the 8" x 8" duct by means of a 1" conduit.

    2. One circuit will have an open circuit appearance, the other a closed circuit appearance for condition #1. For condition #2 the state will be reversed.

    3. Resistence across the short circuited circuit measured at the a/n terminal box not to be greater than 1 ohm. Current carrying capacity of the circuit should be 15 amps.

  10. Telephone conduit is required, size and location as per Appendix "D".

  11. TELCO space requirement are as per Appendix "D".

A one line power diagram will be forwarded immediately it has been made available from GEEIA.

A separate ground bus for DC and AC neutral ground are to be provided at the unregulated voltage equipment panel. The building ground connections should provide a maximum resistence not exceeding 10 ohms.

Appendix "A" shows structural and mounting details of the Heat Exchangers. It is suggested that 1/4" steel plates be placed on the inside and outside of the building walls and braced to the concrete floor.

The following suggestions are submitted on building layout and orientation, and should be incorporated in the design where practical:

  1. The orientation of the building should be such that the diesel exhaust stacks are "downwind" from the emergency accommodation area.

  2. The tower should be "downwind" from the living and equipment area. (Antennae have collapsed in extreme weather).

  3. The double bunks should be on the wall opposite their present location to reduce diesel noise and vibration. Also may it be confirmed that - the wall between the diesel and living area will be designed to reduce noise between the two areas.

  4. The toilet is close to food preparation area. Does this not pose a health problem?
