Land Acquisition & Forestry Towers
Gap Filler Radar Stations, Various

In accordance with Item 10 of Minutes of CCE Staff Meeting No 120 held on 14 Feb 63, it is requested that the following action be taken as a result of the delay in completion of construction of the various Gap Filler Radar Stations.

  1. At sites where construction has commenced, land will be acquired and easements will be obtained as required. This will involve land surveys of private property and access roads. It is understood this action is being done now.

  2. At sites where construction has not commenced, options will be extended to Dec 64. No land surveys of private properties and access roads should be made until authority to proceed with construction is received.

  3. At sites where forestry towers exist, Dept of Land & forests, forest protective associations and paper companies should be advised of delay in completion of construction and that existing forestry towers should be used until construction starts again.

  4. Ontario Dept of Lands & Forests, Forest Protection Branch, should be advised in connection with the following sites: Batchawana, Biscotasing, Elliot Lake, Oba and Timmins. For Atikokan the Department shoud be advised a Joint Radar and Forestry Tower has been erected and may be used but does not have electric power.

  5. Ottawa River Forest Protective Association Ltd should be advised in connection with the following sites: Belleterre and Nishkotea Lake.

  6. Lower Ottawa Forest Protective Association Ltd should be advised in connection with the site at Beaver Tower.

  7. Southern St Lawrence Forest Protective Association Ltd should be advised in connection with the site at Squatteck.

  8. New Brunswick International Paper Co should be advised in connection with the site at Whites Brook.

  9. Canadian International Paper Co should be advised in connection with the site at Todd Mtn.

  10. At Atikokan, Batchawana, Belleterre, Biscotasing, Elliot Lake, Oba, Timmins and Todd Mtn access roads have been constructed and may be used by the Forest Protective personnel on the condition that they accept temporary responsibility for maintenance of the roads. Also, at Atikokan, Belleterre, Biscotasing, Elliot Lake, Oba, Timmins and Todd Mtn. buildings and services have been constructed and it is requested that the Forest Protective personnel accept temporary outward custoday of the installations during the period they are there, and advise this Department of any damage being done to the buildings or services.
