Dear Sir:

Re: Forestry Towers and Access Roads
Deferred Gap Filler Programme
Your file: 1653-6-805-808-801 (RE)

Please refer to your letter of 29 April last which dealt with replies received to your letters, apparently sent to diverse Forest Protective agencies, relative to the subject deferment.

In my letter of 15 March 1963, please note that the last paragraph lists only eight access roads as being completed. There is, therefore, no need for road maintenance nor custody of the installation at Nishkotea Lake and Squatteck, as no contracts have been awarded and no construction carried out at these sites.

In the case of Belleterre, it is not intended that any major maintenance be done by the Ottawa River Forest Protective Association but it would be appreciated if the road could be kept passable as offered. As far as use of the road by other people is concerned, I am told that instructions had been issued to the general contractor to erect a farm-type gate and short fence at the beginning of the new access road as indicated on the attached sketch. The contractor was subsequently informed by Consolidated Paper Corporation that they did not want a gate at this point as they were using the first portion of the road in connection with their logging operations. If the Association is concerned about public traffic on this road I would be grateful if you would have your regional office indicate that the department will not object to a gate and fence being erected, if the location of the key in some convenient office in Belleterre or Villemarie is made known to our personnel.

Yours sincerely,
