MEMORANDUM

ADM(C&P)SP
Proposed Relocation of
Gap Filler Radar Stations
In the memorandum at second folio hereunder our engineers have advised that a number of Gap Filler Radar Sites are being considered for relocation or deferment.
Although we must await further confirmation following visits to the new areas and approval of the new sitings by the USAF and RCAF, it is recommended that DOT be advised of the proposed relocations so that they will suspend their activities in respect of the original sites.
If you concur in the attached draft letter informing DOT in this regard, may it be signed and despatched, please.

Deputy Minister,
Department of Transport
Ottawa, Ontario
Dear Sir:
Re: Gap Filler Installation
Would you please refer to the exchange of correspondence between our offices, your files 26-10-7, 1653-741, and 1653-742, concerning the matter of land on which Gap Filler Radar Stations are to be sited.
I have been informed by our engineers that as a result of recent developments affecting the siting criteria for these stations a number of the sites are being relocated. The locations which we propose to utilize cannot be confirmed until further preliminary surveys of the areas have been completed. In addition, new siting reports must be prepared and approved by our officials as well as those of the USAF.
However, I wished to make you aware of the situation in respect of the proposed resitings so that you would suspend all action now being taken on the original locations listed hereunder. All of the sites enumerated are subject to relocatin or deferment with possible reinstatement at a later date.
I will ensure that you are informed as quickly as possible when a decision has been reached in respect of these relocations.
Yours sincerely,
for Deputy Minister
