Dear Sirs:
Further to our recent letter authorizing you to proceed on reconnaissance trips to the approved sites in your area, you are now requested to proceed with the field survey, soil investigation and engineering recommendations for the Fap Filler Radar Station at the above noted site.
On the attached appendix are listed the federal and provincial maps and aerial photographs, which are being forwarded under separate cover, for your general assistance in locating the site and carrying out the field survey. In addition reference is made to the latitude and longitude and approximate elevation above mean sea level to be used on the site. Further information is given pertaining to on-site or nearest geodetic stations, all-weather road, communications route and ownership of site and access road. Maps are being forwarded (if available) to cover an approximate 10 mile radius around the site, plus additional ones for the access road if necessary, in order to assist in the plotting of the access road, and the nearest power and communications lines. Any additional copies of 1:50,000 or other scale federal maps desired should be requested from Air Force Headquarters. Additional provincial maps should be obtainted directly from the Province.
You are requested to refer to the original Statement of Services dated 2 April 1959 and the typical and standard drawings and photostated maps given to you during the recent briefing trip for detailed requirements of the field survey and preparation of drawings to the extent authorized by the revised Statement of Services dated 10 July 1959. The following additional information should be obtained during the field survey:
The latitude and longitude of the site should be obtained either by plotting on a 1:50,000 map or by using the information forwarded pertaining to the nearest geodetic stations to carry out inverse triangulation from the site if possible.
Work permits are being forwarded if received from the Province, but in all cases you are requested to contact the District Forester of the Provincial Department of Lands and Forests for permission to enter the area of the site and cut timber for survey purposes.
The ownership of the site and access road is listed on the attached appendix. Permission has been obtained from the Provincial Governments to enter the site if on Crown land and carry out the field surveys.
