Re: Reconnaissance Report
Gap Filler Radar Station Tobermory, Ont
Dear Sirs:
Receipt is acknowledge of your letter of 3 September 1959 and the following enclosures:
With reference to your Reconnaissance Report, para 2, the "Description and Location of area selected" given to you is to be used as a guide to the site, but the preferred location for the tower on ALL sites is the HIGHEST point in the area. However, it is desirable to confine the site to one property when private ownership is involved. Although you are requested to recommend a specific location for the tower and building, the final selection will be made by AFHQ after receiving your contour plans. The indication of an area 100 ft by 200 ft in the siting document is only an approximation for estimating purposes and the final location of the fencing will be determined after the siting of the tower and building is completed. In spite of any physical or legal restrictions to the site, the field survey should cover the 400 feet square and 500 foot radials from the highest point or until the elevation is 50 ft below the highest point.
With reference to your Instructions to Party Chief, para 8, please amend 400 square feet to read 400 feet square; para 3, confirm that DHC bearing is astronomic, and include such information on your drawings; para 5, the allowance for the access road will normally be 66 ft wide, but if no trees are involved, it may be reduced to 50 ft wide.
With reference to your Interim Construction Estimate, it is requested that a revised estimate be submitted incorporating the following changes and standard headings.
