I was assigned with the 923rd AC&W Squadron at Hopedale when I was advised of my re-assignment to the Gap Filler site located at Cape Makkovik.
I flew from Hopedale to Cape Makkovik in a helicopter and I found that I was one of the first to arrive at this location. The only other personnel was Captain Neuman, our first Commander, and an airman who was in charge of the Motor Pool.
Our operational callsign was "Memorial". Captain Neuman assumed the callsign of "Memorial 1" and I was assigned the callsign of "Memorial 2".
I recall that we had an establishment of one officer (the Commander), 14 enlisted me, and three Englishmen who took care of the generators and the facility.
I departed Cape Makkovik in August 1957.
