1958 - Elliston Ridge Revisited - Gerhard Maher
The radar station at Elliston Ridge was known as Detachment #1, 642nd AC&W Squadron and everything at this location was contained in one very large building. This unit served as a Gap Filler and it reported to the 642nd AC&W Squadron (Red Cliff Air Station) which was located near St. John's. The senior rank at Elliston was a Captain who reported to the Commanding Officer (a Major) at Red Cliff. The Elliston Ridge complex was about a four to five hour drive from St. John's.
