Construction - Gap Filler Radar Stations
By Note d/13 Jun 55 (copy of which appears at flagged folio (1) hereunder), the Canadian Government authorized the construction and operation of Gap Filler Sites, as set out in our letter to Mr Smallwood, Premier of the Province of Newfoundland, at flagged folio (2) hereunder.
NEAC, by message d/10 May 56, at first folio herunder, advises that Provincial Department of Public Health, which presently occupies a site a La Scie, required by this department as a tank farm in connection with the Gap Filler to be constructed at that locality, has indicated that they will relinquish their title and that an alternate site, acceptable to them, can be purchased for approximately $2,000.
Due to the urgency of construction requirements, NEAC has requested a reply indicating the acceptability of this proposal, as soon as possible. If you concur, DOT will be instructed to purchase the tank farm site from the Provincial Government at a consideration which will reimburse the Provincial Government to the extent necessary for them to acquire their new location and NEAC will be advised that the proposal is acceptable.
