End of 1955/56 training program

2 Jul 56

RTTP summer training commenced with 70 students in Fighter Control Operator trade. Staff consisted of seven Regular Force and four Auxiliary personnel.

Jul - Aug 56

Thirty personnel attended summer camp at St Sylvestre while twelve airmen spent the summer months at contract training on various Regular Force stations.

9 Jul 56

Regular CE Maintenance inspection carried out by Mr F Trottier, Cpl JA Warnock and Cpl JA Gaudet of No 1 Gp.

31 Aug 56

RTTP training terminated for summer of 1956. Of 70 enlistments, 22 were discharged during the term, 47 of the 48 remaining were successful in final trade tests. Of the 47 who passed, 34 transferred to Auxiliary to continue training and 12 transferred to the Supplementary Reserve.

Fall training commenced.

S/L Fr Sarty SOGT ADC HQ visited Unit for purpose of annual fall ground training discussions.

14 Oct 56

S/L O'Boyle, Commanding Officer, F/L JD Bell, C Train O, and F/O E Beland, RSO attended conference at RCAF Station St Sylvestre to discuss training. Others in attendance were W/C Dupuis, S/L Leveque of No 1 Gp and S/L Levine of 2453 AC&WS.

Trade exams written by 13 candidates while nine controllers attempted Phase 1 exam.

22 Oct 56

F/O R Stewart C Train O of St Sylvestre visited unit.

24 Oct 56

F/L JM Laurin, No 1 Gp SOSec and Cpl FT Clarke visited Unit to clarify any problems pertaining to security.

11 Nov 56

The Unit was well represented at the drumhead service held in the Sherbrooke Regiment armoury to commemorate Armistice Day. All Auxiliary services and veterans later paraded to the cenotaph to take part in the ceremony.

19 Nov 56

S/L Dobson, Camp Commandant, No 1 Gp made a routine visit to discuss matters pertaining to personnel. Accompanying him was S/L Harvey, PRO ADC, to make arrangements with the press covering publicity of special weekend at St Sylvestre, 25 Nov.

25 Nov 56

Forty-seven personnel of AC&WS accompanied by eight TV, radio and press men of the two local papers travelled to St Sylvestre for the day. For the first time, the day shift at the tower was manned solely by Auxiliary FtrCOps and Controllers, and publicity shots were taken of the crew while at work.

7 Sep - 23 Nov 56

During this period, seven weekend trips were made to St Sylvestre the parent Unit, for contact training with the Regular Force. Average attendance on each trip wa six controllers and nine other ranks.
