Summer Camp 61
Summer Camp 61 was most successful. It was held at Stn St Sylvestre as in 1960. Even if it was known by everyone that the Squadron was to disband in Dec 61, Stn St Sylvestre personnel extended excellent cooperation to our Squadron. I am sure that 2452 AC&W Sqn personnel will keep a good souvenir of their last summer camp.
Jul - Nov 61
After summer camp, the Squadron took the usual one month summer stand-down. In September local training was started, but on a smaller scale than usual, since it had been announced by ADCHQ that local training would end on 31 Oct 61. Heavy site activity also ceased on the 30 Nov 61.
26 Oct 61
Disbandment Party
On the 26 Oct 61 the Squadron held its official disbandment dinner. A/C Gilchrist represented the AOC of ADCHQ at the dinner. The event was lively and colourful, and attendance by all Squadron members on strength at the Unit. This funtion showed the spirit of Unity and determination of the Squadron.
Nov - Dec 61
Disbandment Procedures
Immediately following the disbandment dinner, action was initiated to disband the Unit gradually, as instructed by ADCHQ Org Order. All technical and radar equipment at the Unit was returned to St Hubert supply section, and the same action was taken with personal equipment on loan. On the 7 Nov 61 three quarters of the squadron was transferred to the supplementary reserve. The Squadron SMO, CAdO and a Sgt ClkAdm were transferred to 4014 Med Unit.
During December, only the CO, accounts personnel and key administration personnel were on strength. The Squadron held its last mess functions in December before transferring the Messes to 4014 Medical Unit effective the 31 Dec 61.
31 Dec 61
Disbandment
All administrative problems concerning 2452 AC&W Squadron were settled before the 31 Dec 61. Remaining personnel at 2452 AC&W were SOS on the 31 Dec 61, on the last Squadron DRO.
