REPORT ON SUMMER CAMP TRAINING
2400 AC&W UNIT (Reserve)
Operational Resume
Operational exercises carried out by 2400AC&W Unit while on Summer Camp Training were as follows:
Saturday 23 Jun 51
Convoy 56 left Scarborough at 0800 hours,arrived at Camp Mohawk at 1700 hours. The only mishap during the trip was the breakdown of No 5 truck caused by a defective fuel pump. Convoy 63 left Downsview at approximately 0800 hours, but did not arrive at its destination until the following day.
Sunday 24 Jun 51
Convoy 63 arrived at Camp Mohawk at 1500 hours. Several breakdowns were experienced by this convoy during transit. The unit ME Section reported that such items as gas lines, tanks, and fuel pumps had not been properly checked prior to departure.
Convoy No 56 was moved to the remote site at Lonsdale, approximately 5 miles from Camp Mohawk. Setting-up was started at once. The R/T assigned call was "Viscount".
Monday 25 Jun 51
Convoy No 63 was set up on a site adjacent to ADCC; R/T call "Spearmint". Two interceptions were attempted by Viscount, but only one was completed as the a/c involved returned to its base.
Tuesday 26 Jun 51
Two interceptions were attempted and completed.
Wednesday 27 Jun & Thursday 28 Jun 51
No exercises were attempted. 400 Squadron aircraft carried out exercises in Quebec.
Friday 29 Jun 51
400 Squadron a/c carried out exercises with Army at Picton. One interception was carried out by 2400 Unit en-route.
Saturday 30 Jun 51
No interceptions - Sports afternoon.
Sunday 1 Jul and Monday 2 Jul 51
No interceptions - Rain
Tuesday 3 Jul 51
Three interceptions attempted. Two completed. Attack by 416 Squadron.
Wednesday 4 Jul 51
No interceptions - sports afternoon and rain.
Thursday 5 Jul 51
No interceptions - rain.
Friday 6 Jul 51
No interceptions - Convoy No 56 dismantled and packed.
Saturday 7 Jul 51
Convoy No 56 departed for Toronto at 0745 hours; arrived Scarborough at approximately 1400 hours without mishap other than a plugged fuel line in one truck which had to be corrected en-route.

Telecommunications Report
VHF and HF were generally satisfactory. Because of late delivery of the Bell Telephone equipment, completion of the Ops Room was delayed until late in the week. Two HF channels were available, one for point-to-point work between Deseronto and Trenton, the other for passing plots from the remote radar convoy to the Ops Room. These links have been entirely satisfactory except for the occasional breakdown usual with radio equipment. VHF at ADCC was very good. At the remote location, however, it was found necessary to erect a 90 foot mast for VHF in order to obtain satisfactory results. The R/T chnnels were, for VHF, 1332, for HF3480 for plotting R/T, and 5440 for point-to-point.
Operational Results
Operational results were in general not satisfactory. Out of eight interceptions attempted, only six were completed.
Insufficient time was allotted to the AC&WU for interceptions. The aircraft were not airborne until after 1345 hrs and had to return by 1530 hours.During this period, exercises other than interceptions were being carried out which limited the time for interceptions.
