2400 Aircraft Control and Warning Unit, Toronto, Ont.

Dec 54
During the month of December 1954, the regular training programme was carried out during the first two mid-week parade nights. On each of the first two week-ends of the month, six controllers were engaged in synthetic exercises at RCAF Station Clinton. A total of 189 synthetic intercepts were completed during the course of these two week-ends.
15 Dec 54
On Wednesday, Dec 15, a Christmas dinner party was held to which all ranks were invited. The dinner was followed by the quarterly pay parade after which an organization meeing was held to formulate plans for the first quarter of 1955.
18 Dec 54
The Squadron Children's Christmas party was held on the afternoon of the 18th. Approximately 140 children of squadron personnel and their parents attended. Suitable gifts were distributed to each child by F/L J Roberts in the role of Santa Claus. A number of squadron airwomen ably assisted with the handling of the programme and the serving of refreshments.

The regular training programme was carried out during the first two mid-week parades in January.
8 - 9 Jan 55
On the week-end of January 8th - 9th, designated personnel proceeded to No 31 AC&W, Edgar, to take part in GCI exercises. Owing to adverse weather conditions no successful intercepts were completed.
15 - 16 Jan 55
Designated personnel, comprised of six controllers and seven fighter control operators participated in an exercise at No 51 GObC during the week-end of January 15th - 16th. All positions were manned by 2400 Squadron personnel. In addition, instruction was received from the Duty Officer. Aircraft from 400 Sqn (Aux) participated in the exercise.
16 Jan 55
Personnel not participating the above mentioned exercise, participated in a regular training programme on Sunday, Jan 16th, at RCAF Station Toronto.
19 Jan 55
All ranks were engaged in a rehearsal for the full dress parade scheduled for the following week in connection with the change of command of No 14 Op Wg. However, due to the suddent illness of G/C Waddell, the handing over ceremony scheduled for Jan 27th was cancelled.

Regular mid-week training programme.
29 - 30 Jan 55
On the week-end of 29th - 30th Jan 55, five controllers were engaged in synthetic intercepts at RCAF Stn Clinton. A total of 112 successful intercepts were completed.
Nine squadron staff officers made a tour of COC St Hubert over the weekend of 29 - 30 Jan. A liaison visit was also made to 2401 Sqn, Montreal.
30 Jan 55
All personnel not otherwise detailed attended a regular training parade at RCAF StationToronto on 30 Jan 55.
Feb 55
During February regular training parades were held each Wednesday night with the exception of Feb 16, 55.
16 Feb 55
Squadron sports parade was held.
6 - 7 Feb 55
On the weekend of Feb 6 - 7, seven controllers and eight FCOs were engaged in a GCI exercise at No 31 AC&W Squadron, Edgar. A total of ten successful live intercepts were completed and fourteen synthetic intercepts were completed.
12 - 13 Feb 55
On the 12 - 13 Feb 55, eight officers and six other ranks from 2400 AC&W Sqn and two officers from 5001 Intelligence Unit were engaged in GCI exercises in 31 AC&W Sqn, Edgar. A total of eight successful live intercepts and four synthetic intercepts were completed.
19 - 20 Feb 55
A party of five controllers particpated in synthetic exercises at RCAF Stn Clinton.
26 - 27 Feb 55
Four controllers participated in synthetic exercises at RCAF Stn Clinton. A total of 222 successful intercepts were completed on these two week-ends.
28 Feb 55
On Monday, Feb 28, a conference was held of staff officers and other designated personnel to discuss the Squadron organization and other details of Squadron activity for the quarter beginning 1 Apr 55.
5 - 6, 12 - 13 Mar 55
On the weekends of 5 - 6 Mar and 12 - 13 Mar, designated personnel participated in GCI exercises at 31 AC&W Sqn, Edgar. On the former week-end a total of thirteen live intercepts were successfully completed, while on the latter, a total of five live intercepts and four synthetic intercepts were successfully completed.
19 - 20, 26 - 27 Mar 55
On the week-end of 19 - 20 of Mar three controllers, and on the week-end of 26 - 27 of Mar five controllers participated in GCI exercises at RCAF Station Clinton. A total of 236 successful synthetic intercepts were completed on these two week-ends.
27 Mar 55
On 27 Mar two officers and twenty-one other ranks attended a GObC exercise at the GObC Filter Center at Barrie. Owing to adverse weather conditions the exercise was not too successful. However those present were made familiar with the methods employed at the centre. The regular training programme was carried out at all mid-week parades during the week.
2 - 3 Apr 55
Designated personnel were engaged in a GCI exercise at AC&W Sqn Edgar on the week-end of 2 - 3 Apr. A total of 18 successful live intercepts were completed.
3 Apr 55
On Sunday, 3 Apr 55, the remainder of the Squadron were engaged in writing promotion examinations and in carrying out the regular training programme.

On each Wednesday evening during the month, with the exception of 20 Apr 55, the regular mid-week training programme was carried out.
20 Apr 55
On Apr 20 the regular quarterly pay parade was held, followed by a social meeting in B Mess.
16 - 17, 23 - 24 Apr 55
On the week-end of 16 - 17 Apr 55, five officers and on the week-end of 23 - 24 Apr 55, four officers participated in synthetic GCI exercises at RCAF Station Clinton. A total of 167 successful synthetic intercepts were completed on these two week-ends.
30 Apr - 1 May, 7 - 8 May 55
On the week-end of the 30 Apr - 1 May and again on the 7 - 8 May designated personnel took part in GCI exercises at No 31 AC&W Sqn Edgar. A total of twenty live intercepts were completed and eleven successful synthetic intercepts were completed. On the latter week-end two officers were examined and passed their Phase II evaluation.
May 55
Regular training was carried on each of the mid-week parades during the month.
14 - 15 May 55
During the week-end of the 14 - 15 May three officer controllers took part in synthetic exercises at RCAF GCI Station Clinton. Sixty-seven successful synthetic exercises were completed.
27 May 55
On Friday, 27th May 55, officers of the 2400 Squadron attended a Mess Dinner to which an invitation had been extended to ex-officers of the Squadron. S/L Illingworth outlined the past history of the Squadron, with emphasis on some of the more humorous aspects of the Squadron's history. All officers agreed that it was a most enjoyable evening.
28 - 29 May 55
Designated personnel were engaged during the week-end of 28 - 29 May in GCI exercises at No 31 AC&W Sqn, Edgar. A total of nine successful live intercepts were completed. Two officers successfully passed their Phase II evalutation.
29 May 55
On May 29 designated personnel took part in the Toronto Garrison Church Parade.
May 55
During the month of May, arrangements were made for swimming lessons for interested Squadron personnel, in the swimming pool at RCAF Station Toronto.
