1 Jun 59

S/L RG Ings and F/L Marsh FJ proceeded to Stn Cold Lake for Summer Camp preparations. Arrangements were made for personnel in the FtrCOp trade to undergo contact training during Jul and Aug.

7 Jun 59

F/L DW McNichol, SOPC, 5 Air Div visited this unit to discuss arrangements for summer camp employment of auxiliary FtrCOps.

13 Jun 59

A Squadron dining-in night was held. Approximately 120 members of the unit and their guests attended the dinner. S/L RG Ings was the after-dinner speaker.

14 Jun 59

A sports afternoon organized for all personnel. The officers played the airmen in a baseball match.

21 Jun 59

CO's parade was held. The unit was commended on its turn-out and appearance. F/O A Cormack, Pers/Adm was presented with the CD by S/L RG Ings.

1 Jul 59

Five auxiliary personnel were posted to 2403 AC&W Sqn (Support) for special duty with the Regular Force for a two-month period.

5 Jul 59

Fourteen auxiliary airmen in the FtrCOp trade were TOS Stn Cold Lake for contact training with the Regular Force, for a period of six weeks. Two officers in the Controller trade were also TOS Stn Cold Lake for employment with the Regular Force.

12 Jul 59

14 days summer camp training for this unit was undertaken at RCAF Stn Cold Lake. Airlift transportation was provided by Stn Cold Lake. Personnel attending summer camp included 19 officers, 12 OR's, along with 2 members of the Support Unit and the 15 other personnel previously under contact training.

24 Aug 59

A staff visit to discuss training matters was paid this unit by S/L FR Sarty SOGT ADCHQ, F/L MM Rutherford SOGT 5 Air Div, and F/L DW McNichol SOPC 5 Air Div.

26 Aug 59

5 Air Div announced F/O Gough and F/O Tibble completed Phase II of local fighter controller course. F/O Boczar, F/O Bolan, P/O Charlton, F/O Parslow, and F/O Wheatley successfully completed AS/FtrC Phase III.

9 Sep 59

Cpl CM Darroch Sup Tech 3 arrived on transfer from RCAF Stn Comox to replace Cpl SJ Sanders Sup Tech 3 on the Support Staff.

17 Sep 59

A barbeque was held at Stn Calgary by all unit personnel and their guests.

6 Oct 59

A staff visit was paid to this unit by S/L RH Pook from ADCHQ.

7 Oct 59

A/C Harvey JB ADCHQ visited this unit.

9 Oct 59

A formal dining-in was held by the officers and their guests.

18 Oct 59

Trade Exams were held. Sixteen personnel were eligible to write in the FtrCOp trade, 2 in the Clk Typ trade, one in Acc(P) and one in Rdr Tech (G).

CO's parade was held. S/L RG Ings presented scrolls to 19 graduates of RTTP.

29 Oct 59

The annual Commander's Inspection parade was held. A/C AD Ross, Commander, 5 Air Div HQ was accompanied by W/C FW Hillock and F/L GE Waugh. An informal dining-in was held in the Officers Mess prior to the inspection.

11 Nov 59

A/V/M MacBrien WR, Air Officer Commanding Air Defence Command, paid a staff visit.

20 Nov 59

A formal dining-in was held by the regular membes of the Officers Mess.

29 Nov 59

The annual Church Parade was held by all members of RCAF Stn Calgary under the command of 30 Wing HQ Auxiliary. Personnel paraded to Grace Presbyterian Church.

At the commencement of this training year, a special section of the unit was organized for the purpose of planning a comprehensive version of Systems Training Plans to suit the training requirements and operational facilities of this unit.

In order to take advantage of such planning a major change in the physical layout of our operations facilities is in progress and is near completion. This included improvements to lines of communications, GSM Boards, Tote Boards and all auxiliary equipment.
