Historical Narrative
2405 Aircraft Control and Warning Sqn (Auxiliary) Halifax, NS.
1 June 1957 to 30 November 1957
Regular Fighter Controller and Fighter Control Operator training was carried out throughout the period each Tuesday and Thursday evening, with the exception of the summer vacation season when Thursday night parades only were held.
In addition, weekend training under actual conditions was held each Saturday and Sunday at RCAF Station Beaverbank. During this period, on at least two occasions, the Operations Room at the heavy site was manned entirely by personnel of 2405, with only a skeleton crew of regular force personnel standing by in an advisory capacity.
The great majority of our personnel also spent from eight to fifteen consecutive days at Beaverbank as Summer Camp training. This was of mutual benefit to regular and auxiliary officers and airmen.
RTTP training kept the unit busy too. Of a total of 184 applicants for enlistment considered, 80 males were accepted and took Phase I training. These were joined for Phase II by 8 Maritime Squadron Air Cadets. Of this total off 88, 15 were CT'd and 12 failed the Group I Ftr COp examination. Of those successful, 5 enlisted in the regular force and 54 transferred to the Auxiliary.
Visitors from Command Headquarters during the period were S/L Pook, here from 16 Oct to 17 Oct and S/L Sarty from 21 Nov to 22 Nov.
