Surveillance Standards. Raid stands were introduced on the 6 Nov 59, however, now that plastic vertical totes have been introduced they have been discontinued. They are only used for tracks that are being forward told to this Unit. Immediately it is picked up by our radar it is allotted a serial number and amplifying data is posted on plastic totes.

Visits VIP. Colonel Coronet, Colonel Milner, 26 Air Div. SAGE, S/L Lemke, CTSO Foymount, and Sir Robert Watson Watt visited the Operations Building.

CE Section. Interim handover of modified 30x30 foot tower.

22110 S/L JH Cochrane assumed Acting Command of RCAF Station Edgar vice 19739 W/C WA Hockney, who was absent on TD for period of 4 Jan 60 to 22 Feb 60. 28142 F/L WL Pigden assumed the duties of Acting COpsO for RCAF Station Edgar vice 22110 S/L JH Cochrane for period 4 Jan 60 to 17 Jan 60.

Communications. The installation of Crystal Oscillators at the transmitter remote site was completed on this date. The object of using this new equipment Type E03 is to standardize the type of radio crystal for use with high frequency transmitting equipment.

Surveillance Standards. Plastic tote boards (5) were installed and replaced the regular venetian type tote boards. Visits VIP. A/V/M KLB Hodson OBE, DFC, CD, Deputy Chief Staff Operations, NORAD HQ, reviewed our operations.

RAAF Visit. Four members of the RAAF (Sgts. Gear, Balfour, Mason and Cpl. Flynn) on FPS-6B Course at CGE Toronto, toured the Radar Section.

38992 F/L AN Hammond was appointed Acting CTSO during the absence on leave of 9961 S/L WJ Hinegger from 3 Feb 60 to 12 Feb 60.

The Station Barber Shop was closed for an indefinite period due to the resignation of the present barber.

28142 F/L WL Pigden reassumed the duties of Acting COpsO for RCAF Station Edgar vice 20489 F/L KA Norman for period 8 Feb 60 to 15 May 60.

A new Stockroom was erected in Building #18 (MSE Workshop)

The Station Barber Shop reopened effective this date with a new incumbent.

Visits VIP. Seventy-four officers from USAF Command and Staff School, Maxwell AFB Montgomery, Alabama, received a briefing on our Operations. Brigadier General FE Calhoun and A/C WA Orr accompanied the officers.

G/C Newsome and 72 officers from the RCAF Staff College received a briefing on our operations.

224656W F/O EM Boyce assumed the duties of Acting CAdO vice 30345 F/L AK Ruel who was absent on leave for period 2 Mar 60 to 13 Mar 60. Communications. The RCAF took over circuit control of the Microwave system known as ADCOM 1 on the 2nd of March 1960.

A DM Audit took place at Station Edgar with six auditors being located here for a period of 18 days.

Operations. Evaluation team from ADC were here to observe and make recommendations on our methods of operation.

CE Section. On this date the Combined Chapel interim handover took place.

Operations. A briefing was given by Colonel Griffith, 30 Air Div., SAGE on F106 and F101 tactics to all 3rd NORAD Division.

9961 S/L WJ Honegger assumed temporary command of RCAF Station Edgar from 5 Apr 60 to 9 Apr 60 vice 19739 W/C WA Hockney who was absent on TD.

Visits VIP. Barrie Junior Chamber of Commerce toured the Operations Building.

CE Section. Water softener equipment was relocated from artesian wells Wonder Valley, to high level pump house. Completed this date.

AN/FPS-507. Installation by CGE Toronto; Mr. Ralph Bowslaugh in charge; Mr. Orville Kettle, DND/IS, and Mr. John Gallagher AMCHQ representative.

132121W F/O MM Prendergast Med/Nurs. Officer in charge of Station Edgar Hospital was SOS on release.

28142 F/L WL Pigden relinquished the duties of Acting COpsO on transfer to McChord AFB USA. 22110 S/L JH Cochrane relinquished command of COpsO on transfer to Sault Ste. Marie, USA.

25660 S/L MBC Anderson assumed the duties of COpsO Station Edgar vice 22110 S/L JH Cochrane who was transferred. 17720 S/L JS Hicks assumed the duties of Acting COpsO during the absence of 25660 S/L MBC Anderson on TD for period of 16 May 60 to 28 May 60. 225996W F/O EM Connor Med/Nurs. Arrived on the Unit on transfer from RCAF Station Mont Apica to take over as officer in charge of Station Hospital.

Visits VIP. The Army Staff College from Kingston received a briefing on our Operations.

AN/FPS-507 – Acceptance meeting. Installation was formally handed over to the RCAF at 1600Z.
31 May 60
AN/FPS-508 Overhaul. Commenced by NE Company Belleville with Mr. Graham Bell in charge and fourteen engineers and technicians. CE Section. Power provisions and modifications to Operations Building – Interim handover.
