    • The mission of the 926th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron is to conduct air defense operations within that area assigned by Headquarters, 64th Air Division (Defense) Regulation 55-24 and function as a GCI Station in the Air Defense System.

    COMMENTARY

    Command of this squadron was assumed by Major Frederick L Schanberger, after the departure of the previous commander, Captain Paul H Curtner, Jr.

    Complete re-wiring of all radio circuits on the MDF and the retermination of one eleven line radio control box was accomplished during the period.

    Approximately 10,000 feet of dead drop wire has been removed from the squadron area in a general clean-up campaign. Approximately 10 telephones have been re-routed to eliminate excessive drop wire.

    All floors in the Power Plant were painted in accordance with the 64th Air Division (D) color code.

    Annual overhaul of two (2) 250 HP Boilers was completed during this period.

    The water storage tank (90,000 gallons) in the Boiler Room was repainted during this period.

    The Division PM Team arrived on this station and performed all PM activities possible. They were unable to complete all projects due to material not having arrived on scheduled sea transportation.

    A new floor was laid in the Technical Supply Office during this period.

    A new Sub-Cycle ringing unit and a complete set of Excide wet cell batteries were received and installed and are operating satisfactorily.

    One (1) T-217 and one (1) T-282 Transmitters were received from Depot upon completion of overhaul. This now gives this organization 100% backup on all UHF equipment.

    The Communications Center has been painted and the NE-622 Switchboard has been moved to a more convenient location.

    Road marker poles were placed in the squadron area, pole vault, pump house, and the road to the lower base in preparation for winter.

    Pumping of diesel fuel for our annual resupply started at 1530 hours, 30 August 1959 and was completed on 15 September 1959.

    SUNEC 59 property was received during the month of August 1959. The Sagitta arrived on the 21st of August. Cargo consisted of frozen foods and contractor material. Off loading was completed by 0830 hours on the 24th of August 1959.

    The Permanent Joint Board of Defense headed by Mr. Hannah representing the United States and Mr. Wilgress representing Canada, and consisting of 24 persons, visited the station on the 24th of August. Following a formal briefing, the Board inspected the station facilities.

    The ADC Facilities Evaluation Panel visited the station on the 27th of August. This panel was headed by Colonel Ralph F Schmidt from the Directories of Real Property ADC. The panel consisted of 12 people. Following a briefing presented by this stations personnel and Captain Edward M Lent, 64th Air Division, the panel inspected the station facilities.

    The installation of the AN/GPA-27 modification to the AN/FPS-3C radar was started during this period and is progressing according to schedule.

    The emergency telephone roadside circuit from the site to Frobisher Airport has been rewired and is ready for winter operation.

    A compressed air line was installed from the Boiler Plant to Radar Maintenance to facilitate cleaning of equipment.

    One (1) Electric Cooking Range was removed and replaced with the new three compartment electric oven received during SUNEC 59.

    Repairs were completed at the Amateur Radio Section and new floors installed. A storm entrance was constructed and outside stairs were relocated.

    The annual General Inspection of the squadron was conducted by the 64th Air Division (D) headed by Lt. Colonel Charles A Gibson, Jr., between 8 and 11 September 1959.
