    COMMENTARY

    Operations:

The Rotating Joint CU512, AN/FPS-20A was modified as prescribed by TO 31P6-2FPS520-564 by a Canadian Marconi Depot team during the month of April. The final acceptance check was conducted on the FPS-20A as prescribed by TO 31-1-8 during the month of May 1960. This squadron received two (2) Hitcock 1805 Oscilloscopes on the 18 June 1960. These scopes are suitable substitutes for the Techtronic scopes (TS 545 or 531) which were ordered. The arrival of these pieces of test equipment greatly reduced the shortage of test equipment this squadron has experienced for the AN/FPS-20A and has greatly influenced the operational capability of some of this squadrons electronic gear. Operations for the period of this report were normal and routine with no outstanding or difficult problems being encountered.

    Personnel:

Major Jess O Yaryan arrived this station on 14 May 1960 and assumed command of this squadron on 16 May 1960. Major Frederick L Schanberger, the departing Commander, left this station on 21 May 1960. First Lieutenant Donald L Joyce, the new Civil Engineer, arrived this station on 28 May 1960. Captain Audrey R Knox, the new Operations Officer, arrived this station on 29 June 1960. M/Sgt. Robert V Fogarty, AF 36492153, received the Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service for a period from 16 July 1957 to 30 September 1959, while assigned to Headquarters, 20th Air Division. This award was presented to M/Sgt. Fogarty on 4 June 1960. The following airmen of this squadron were selected for Airman of the Month for their outstanding performance of duty and contribution to squadron life as a whole; A/1C William R Mordecai for Airman of the Month of April 1960, A/2C Raymond L Murphy for Airman of the Month of May 1960, A/1C Maxie G Ashby for Airman of the Month of June 1960. A/1C William R Mordecai and T/Sgt. Dillard J Smith were nominated to the 64th Air Division (D) for Airman and NCO of the Division for the quarter ending 30 June 1960. The following training hours were accomplished using the following equipment by Operations personnel: AN/GPS-T2 = 90 hours, AN/UPS-T5 = 27:55 hours, ECCM Actor = 74:31 hours, Ground ECCM Training = 95 hours. Supply:

All schedules are being maintained as established by basic "Project Count" procedures.

    Transportation:

On 27 May 1960, A/1C Drugan, Joseph W, AF 11275899, was granted an emergency leave of 309 days duration. The leave was approved in the manner prescribed by current regulations. Transportation was furnished from the 926th AC&W Squadron to Goose Air Base by a civilian airline on a gratis basis. Transportation from Goose Air Base to McGuire AFB and the return trip from McGuire AFB to Goose Air Base was provided by MATS at no expense to Airman Drugan. When Airman Drugan presented himself to transportation at Goose Air Base for the return trip to the 926th AC&W Squadron he was informed that he would have to pay the transportation charges from Goose Air Base to the 926th AC&W Squadron. Airman Drugan paid these charges which amounted to $95.00. The above occurrence is in violation of paragraph 38 of AFM 35-22, dated 1 September 1959, paragraph 5-1-A of AFR 76-15 and TIG Brief Number 8, Volume XII, page 20, dated 15 April 1960.

A squadron reception was conducted on Armed Forces Day by members of this squadron. We had a turnout of approximately 75 people from the local community.

    Morale:

Morale is very high and the squadron health remains in a satisfactory condition with treatment being minor in nature.

The members of this squadron contributed $1010.00 to the United States Air Force Falcon Stadium Fund Drive.
