AN/FPS-87A – Two Channel Prime Radar, AN/FPS-93 Radar Height Finder, AN/GPX-7A Radar Identification, 16 Cummins Diesel Generators, 8 AN/GRC-27 Multi-Channel UHF Transmitter-Receivers, 6 AN/GRR-7 Single Channel UHF Transmitter, 3 MF/URG-60 VHF Receivers, 6 AN/GRR-7 Single Channel Receivers, 6 T-5002/FRT-502, 2 225 HP Steam Boilers..

Operations:

Officer manning during the quarter was satisfactory with authorized strength 13 and 12 weapons controllers assigned. New officer arrivals were Captain Cahill, Captain Ort, and 1^st Lt. Kilduff. Departures consisted of Captain Maule and Lt. Zitel. Airman manning in the Operations Section, at the close of the Quarter, stands at 33 NCO’s authorized, 22 assigned; 52 airmen authorized, with 58 assigned. There were 27 new Airmen assigned this Quarter. During the quarter the 641^st AC&W Squadron participated in 4 live exercises and 23 STM missions. Weapons Controllers accomplished 426 hours of academic and ECM training, while Airmen have accomplished 1,442 hours of the same training. During the past three months 5,623 flight plans were processed by the Operations Section. There were 9 unknowns, 9 active air scrambles, 1,551 practice intercepts and 549 recoveries. Captain Cahill replaced Captain Robert Bradford who departed in July 1965.

Communications and Electronics:

Two maintenance awards were presented to the squadron this quarter. A maintenance management award was presented in recognition of Outstanding Performance in the High-Powered Electron Tube Management Program during the Fiscal Year 1965. The award was given by the 26^th Air Division as a result of maintaining 28,674 radiate hours for Tube Type L-3035, which surpassed all other units in the Division. The semi-annual CEM Maintenance Achievement Award was also presented to the Squadron by GADS. Its purpose is to promote effectiveness, efficiency and outstanding achievements in Ground CEM. Installation of the OA-4381 modification was completed on 27 Aug 65. It changed the AN/FPS-20 to an AN/FPS-87A. The OA-3424 modification is in the process of being installed. The new antenna changes the AN/FPS-87A into an AN/FPS-93A. The GPS-T4, Interceptor Target Simulator, is still in the process of being overhauled. Key personnel arriving and departing during this period are (1) Departures: M/Sgt. Sidwell, S/Sgt. MacFee, S/Sgt. McDonald, S/Sgt. Moore, S/Sgt. Taylor and S/Sgt. Billups. (2) Arrivals: T/Sgt. Todhunter.

Civil Engineering:

Maintenance and Overhaul - Routine preventative maintenance continues daily. The First Quarter PM cycle for FY 66 is behind schedule due to a shortage of personnel in this section.

Power Plant – The number 4 unit was deadlined 4 September 1965 due to loose cylinder liners.

Heating Plant – The plant floor was repainted by shop personnel during the quarter. The heating plant continued to operate at peak efficiency during this period.

O&M Final Projects for FY 67 have been submitted to GADS for approval. A/1C Lorenco A Alexander, Administrative Clerk, departed from this section this quarter.

Supply:

A machine list containing items being held by BEMO pending funds were received and returned to BEMO. The list was annotated with a priority indicating the urgency of need. As of 1 July 1965, all washers and dryers were placed on service contract through contract maintenance. 1^st Lt. Alden C Evans was assigned here from Suffolk County AFB, New York.

Motor Pool:

The motor pool vehicles were driven approximately 39,000 accident free miles during the quarter. A dual channel radio was installed in the squadron Ambulance. One vehicle was turned in, a Ford Pick-Up Truck, to Host Base. Arrivals and departures for the quarter were as follows: Arrivals – S/Sgt. Frank T Anderson, Vehicle Mechanic; Departures – S/Sgt. C Hockersmith and A/1C A Cooper.

Personnel and Administration:

M/Sgt. Olaf Peterson replaced SM/Sgt. Joseph A Imbrescia as squadron First Sergeant on 4 August 1965. A total of 5 officers and 62 airmen were reassigned during this quarter. The squadron Softball Team won the Goose Air Base Championship in September 1965, and the Basketball Team is currently in first place. The squadron was visited by Rear Admiral RH Barnam, USNR, on 4 Sep 65.
