  1. The following report, prepared in accordance with reference A, consists of a brief record of activities on the Station listed in chronological order from 1 Jan to 31 Dec 86. Attached at Annex A is a list of Officers, Senior Non-Commissioned Officers and the number of Men on strength as of 31 Dec 86. Attached at Annex B are training and strength change statistics:
  1. January:

1. Visits: The following person visited the Station this month:

(a) Major Stack - Command RC Padre.

2. Courses/Training: The following courses and training were conducted on this Station as dates indicate:

  1. Projectionist Course 15 and 29 January;
  2. Fire Fighter training 9, 16 and 30 January;
  3. Command Post Training 30 January; and
  4. Shelter Training 21 January.
  1. Project:

(a) Completed stripping down FRT-49 and K-5.

B - February:

  1. Exercises: This Station participated in the following Exercises:
  1. C/W 25 Brave 86-2 (Lie Exercise) 11-12 Feb 86; and
  2. Vigilant Overview 20-24 Feb 86.

2. Visits: The following personnel visited the Station this month:

(a) Master Warrant Officer Robbins - Directorate of Military Occupational Structures.

3. Courses/Training: The following courses and training were conducted on this Station as dates indicate:

  1. Fire Fighter training 13 and 27 Feb 86;
  2. First Aid Training 4 and 6 Feb;
  3. Ground Search Party Training 25-27 Feb; and
  4. Winter Driving Course 14 Feb.

C - March:

1. Visits: The following personnel visited the Station this month:

  1. Chief Warrant Officer McMillan for a staff assistance visit on Food Services.
  2. Warrant Officers Dunford, Bryant, Gascon and Sergeant Collier - EME inspection;
  3. Lieutenant McKinnon - Area Social Work Officer.
  4. Captain Clark, Warrant Officer Lylyk - 73 Comm Group technical visit; and
  5. Captain Holmes, Sergeant Redecop - Aircom Financial inspections.

3. Courses/Training: The following courses and training were conducted on this Station as dates indicate:

  1. Fire Fighter training 13, 20, and 27 March;
  2. First Aid Training 4 and 6 March; and
  3. Projectionist course 12 March.

D - April:

  1. Exercise: This Station participated in the following Exercise:
  1. Joint CW/25 Brave 86-3 (live exercise) from 9-10 Apr 86.

2. Visit: The following personnel visited the Station this month:

  1. 737 Thompson Air Cadet Squadron visit.

3. Courses/Training: The following courses and training were conducted on the Station as dates indicate:

  1. Fire Fighter training 10, 17, 24 April;
  2. Command Post Training 11 Apr;
  3. Base Defence Force Training 22 Apr;
  4. Security Education briefing 30 Apr 86; and
  5. Ground Search Party 23 Apr 86.

4. SPECTRIX Computer system installed and implemented.

E - May:

1. Visits: The following personnel visited the Station this month:

  1. Lieutenant-Colonel Fairlie - Command (P) Padre;
  2. Lieutenant-Colonel Forster - Command AJAG visit; and
  3. Sergeant Tremblay - RMED visit.

2. Courses/Training: The following courses and training were conducted on this Station as dates indicate:

  1. Fire Fighter training8, 15, 27, 28 and 29 May;
  2. Weapons training from 6, 9, 13, 23 May;
  3. First Aid training 2 May 86; and
  4. GSP training 21 May 86.

F - June:

  1. Exercises: This Station participated in the following Exercises:
  1. Present Arms 86 10-23 Jun 86; and
  2. AMALGAM CHIEF 85-3 (Live Exercise) on 15 Jun 86.

2. Visits: The following personnel visited the Station this month:

  1. Master Warrant Officer Miller for a Comm Sec Inspection: and
  2. Warrant Officer Aucoin - AD Tech Career Manager.

3. Courses/Training: The following courses and training were conducted on this Station as dates indicate:

  1. Fire Fighter training 12 and 26 June;
  2. Adventure training 16-27 June; and
  3. Weapons training 3, 4 and 24 Jun 86.

G - July:

  1. Visits: The following person visited the Station this month:
  1. Mr. M Dudra - Canex Regional Representative.
  1. Course/Training:
  1. Fire Fighting 10, 24 Jul 86.
  1. Project:

4. Change of Command: Captain JGD Caty assumed command from Major VV Kipple 11 July 86.

H - August:

  1. Captain Day - Non-Public Funds Technical Audit.
  1. Exercise: This Station participated in the following Exercise:
  2. (a) AMALGAM CHIEF/Snow Time 86-3 19-20 Aug 86.

  3. Course/Training: The following course and training were conducted on this Station as dates indicate:
  1. Fire Fighting training 21 Aug 86.

H - September:

  1. Visits: The following personnel visited the Station this month:
  1. Mr. Lanktreg - Aircom Comsec Inspection;
  2. Warrant Officer Hooker, Mr. Bures and Mr. Blistos - site surveys on CADIN Pinetree Closure Program;
  3. Captain Swarbrick, Master Warrant Officer Davis - Supply Staff Assist Visit; and
  4. Sergeant Magill - Preventive Medicine visit.

J - October:

1. Visits: The following personnel visited the Station this month:

  1. Colonel Doshen Deputy of Operations (NORAD) 27-28 Oct 86.

2. Courses/Training: The following courses and training were conducted on this Station as dates indicate:

  1. Fire Fighter Training - 16 and 23 Oct;
  2. GSP Training 29-31 Oct;
  3. Security Briefing - 16 Oct; and
  4. Disaster Response Plan/Emergency Defence Plan Exercise 7-9 Oct.

K - November:

1. Visits: The following personnel visited this Station on the dates indicated:

  1. Lieutenant Colonel Sim, Major Mercier, Chief Warrant Officer Marshall and Master Warrant Officer Barnes for a Comm Det visit on 18 Nov; and
  2. Master Warrant Officer Davis - Explosive Facilities Safety Inspection.

3. Courses/Training: The following courses and training were conducted on this Station as dates indicate:

  1. Fire Fighter training 13, 20 Nov 86;
  2. First Aid Course 4, 6 Nov 86; and
  3. Safe Backing Course 18, 19 Nov.

M - December:

1. Exercise: The Station participated in the following Exercise:

  1. FABRIC MUTE 87-101 (live exercise) 9-10 Dec 86.

2. Courses/Training: The following courses and training were conducted on this Station as dates indicate:

  1. Fire Fighter training 4 Dec; and
  2. Defensive Driving Course 3, 4 Dec.
  1. Several significant events passed within the last year on this Station. Most noteworthy were:
    1. The FPS-507 Height Finder Operation ceased 31 Dec 86;
    2. The Station Ground Search Party participated in the Madiline Greisdale Search, in July;
    3. Clothing Store ceased operation in December;
    4. Station Ground Search Team disbanded in December 1986;
    5. Officers Mess amalgamated with Sergeant and Warrant Officers Mess in October 1986;
    6. Closure Reunion for present and past members of Station held 15 Aug 86;
    7. Radar monument officially dedicated 19 Sep 86; and
    8. Interlake Adjustment Services Committee (committee formed by local communities) held monthly meetings at the Parish Hall studying re-use possibility of the site.
  1. These milestones and the other events listed chronologically, contributed to the overall operational capabilities and effectiveness of this station. Overall, CFS Gypsumville enjoyed a successful year in 1986.
