The number of pets owned by married RCAF personnel at this Vancouver Island base had dropped off at an alarming rate during the last few months.

It’s a problem, but not a mystery. The dogs and cats are being eaten by cougars.

Base officers say 17 dogs and cats have disappeared in six weeks and now there are only seven cats and five dogs left in the camp.
