INTRODUCTION
- As part of the program to modernize and realign air defence assets in North America, it has been decided to close 17 of the 24 existing CADIN/PINETREE radar sites.
BACKGROUND
- The closures are planned in three groups: five in each of the first two years (1986-1987) and seven in the third year (1988). Closure of the first group consisting of CFSs Beausejour, Man., Falconbridge, Ont., Lac St. Denis, PQ, Yorkton, Sask., and 43 Radar Squadron Penhold, Alta., will have minimal impact on existing operational surveillance coverage in that these sites are located in areas where overlapping radar surveillance exists. Closure of the second group consisting of Alsask, Sask., Dana, Sask., Gypsumville, Man., Lowther, Ont., and Sioux Lookout, Ont., will commence the process of deleting surveillance coverage from the centre of Canada outwards. Closure of the third group consisting of Baldy Hughes, BC., Beaverlodge, Alta., Chibougamau, PQ., Kamloops BC., Moisie PQ., Senneterre, PQ., and 21 Radar Squadron St. Margarets, NB., will complete that process leaving coastal radars at Holberg, BC., Barrington, NS., Sydney, NS., Gander, Nfld., and Goose Bay, Labrador. Finally, Mont Apica, PQ., and 42 Radar Squadron Cold Lake, Alta., will be retained to support CF18 operations and training at Bagotville and Cold Lake.
- This directive applies to the first group of stations only and will henceforth be known as CLOBA CADIN/PINETREE Phase I. Directives for Phases II and II will be promulgated at approximately one year intervals.
ORGANIZATION AND ESTABLISHMENT
- Commanding Officers are requested to:
- identify and quantify those tasks which are being provided in support of other military organizations; and
The balance of this document is not available. We will attempt to obtain the remaining parts of this document, along with directives that would have pertained to Phases II and II of the directive to close the Pinetree Line sites across Canada.
