C-119 to Goose Bay weathered in at Seven Islands. 26 RCAF personnel accommodated at station.

10 Dec 57

C-119 from Goose Bay remained overnight due to weather. 17 personnel accommodated at this unit. RAF Comet aircraft weathered in at Seven Islands. 35 RAF personnel accommodated at this unit.

American SA-16 weathered in at Seven Islands. 4 Officers and 2 airmen remained overnight.

Radar Maintenance Repair Party from RCA Victor Co. under Robert Smith in for annual overhaul of equipment.

Security alert instituted by CO at 1745Z; all clear at 2000Z. Exercise very successful in that, it permitted assessment of procedure laid down in new Station Security Plan for muster of personnel detailed for immediate security duties.

9 Jan 58

"Cocked Pistols" alert commenced at 1656Z. Security Plan instituted. CO departed for Tyndall AFB for controllers course.

10 Jan 58

At 0050Z – "Cocked Pistols" alert ceased – all clear.

21 Jan 58

S/L Lemke, Telecom Officer, CHQ, conducted telecom inspection at unit for two days.

27 – 30 Jan 58

Visit of SOAF representative as technical inspector for M&I biannual statements. Also carried out an inspection of Pay and Supply accounts. Mr. Ackerman of DND Inspection Services in for inspection and acceptance of FPS-3 interlock installation and for telephone cable installation to New Admin building and new PMQ area.

Mr. Gram, RCA Victor Co. in for emergency maintenance of AN/TPS-502.

1 Feb 58

Two civilians from Moisie lost in nearby woods. Squadron SAR team alerted and station siren sounded with hope of lost personnel hearing same. Lost men found at approximately 2100 hours. local by station snowmobile.

Two day visit by F/O T Tracey, CHQ Welfare Officer.

Very successful ECM exercise with SAC.

ATC Ration Run weathered in at Seven Islands. 25 passengers and perishable cargo accommodated at Moisie.

5 Mar 58

Zola 17, SAC B-52 declares MAYDAY – no. 3 engine out. Aircraft directed towards Chatham and handed over to St. Margarets AC&W Squadron for recovery. Aircraft landed safely at Loring AFB.

Northern Electric peaking party under Mr. K Bateman arrived for the annual peaking of the FPS-3 and ancillary equipment.

School Immunization Parade.

VC599, a T-33 on practice flight Ottawa, Chatham, Seven Islands and return to Ottawa, while under surveillance, declared emergency. Passenger passed out in aircraft and pilot diverted to Seven Islands. 47198 F/O WG Smith stricken crew member declared dead shortly after landing.

22 Mar 58

Body of F/O Smith flown to Ottawa for autopsy and T-33 VC599 flown back to home base, Uplands. CO returned to Moisie from Tyndall.

Station immunization parade – 1st polio vaccine inoculations for Station personnel.

Mr. Roberts of Northern Electric arrived for a one day pre-comm overhaul inspection.

8 CF-100s from 413 (AW) Squadron based at Bagotville moved to Chatham for GCI work with units of 2 Sector.

16 Apr 58

Second polio immunization parade – all personnel except 10, have now begun immunization for poliomyletis.

17 Apr 58

Visit of USAF Staff Officers from 266 AC&W Squadron Presq’Ile, 75th Fighter Intercept Squadron, Presq’Ile and SAC ECM Flight, Loring AFB. (Col. Thoma, Captain Griswald, Captain DiCarlo and F/L Ball). Purpose of visit; operational liaison with USAF units and to determine feasibility of using Seven Islands as a recovery alternate for F-89s out of Presqu’Ile. During visit, this unit participated in a "Profile Mission" assuming control of eight USAF fighters. Results were highly satisfactory.

Mr. Standring of RCA arrived today and installed a new motor generator for the TPS-502.

413 Squadron returned to Bagotville.

S/L Southwood (SOMS) and S/L Davis (Matron) conducted polio immunization parade.

14 May 58

USAF KC-97 declared emergency approximately 75 miles north east of station and requested Radar control to nearest airfield. F/O McCauley, duty controller, vectored aircraft to Seven Islands airport. Aircraft landed on second attempt with both port engines feathered, starboard engine on fire and at reduced power. Aircraft was able to jettison only half its fuel load and blew three tires in main undercarriage before stopping at end of runway. Three engines of KC-97 tanker repaired on field by SAC crews from Goose Bay. Approximately 20 personnel rationed and quartered Station Moisie for approximately two weeks.

23 May 58

Short visit from S/L Stevens, S/L Bullock and S/L Hyatt from 2 ADCC. Discussed methods of improving general surveillance within sector, particularly forward telling procedures.
