Construction of 26 PMQs – Steelox 3 bedroom type. Cleaning, grading and excavation started and preliminary work almost completed.

7 – 12 Dec 58

The Northern Electric MRP with Mr. W. Heaven in charge was on the unit from 7 to 12 Dec.

12 Dec 58

Canadair Variety Show entertained the station.

17 Dec 58

Tri-weekly STP exercises discontinued for remainder of month. Children’s Christmas party.

21 Dec 58

25 Eskimos just released from hospital accommodated in Rec. Hall overnight. Aircraft unserviceable at airport.

22 Dec 58

Re-surfacing of Rec. Hall floor commenced.

5 Jan 59

Tri-weekly STP recommenced.

6 – 14 Jan 59

The RCA overhaul and peaking party was here from 6th to 14th Jan with Mr. W. Parama in charge. Three URG-60 receivers plus two FRT-502 transmitters received and installed at remote sites.

15 Jan 59

Armament inspection team for Bagotville visited unit for two days.

Visit by A/V/M Kerr, AMP, for two days.

Implemented AMIS ident procedures.

13 Feb 59

Mr. A. Galbraith from RCA arrived on 13th to repair the motor generator for the TPS-502, departed 14th.

23 Feb 59

F/O LAS McVicar was appointed Matron of the Medical Section, replacing F/O Colford.

Commencement of Security Training lectures – F/O Bly ADCHQ.

Active participation in "Booby Trap" exercise resulted in excellent tactical training for controllers involved. Favourable results achieved by this unit.

NE antenna party installed 3 additional VHF antennas per site.

10 – 13 Mar 59

WO2 Hawkins visited the section on TD from ADCHQ as an FPS-3 peaking observer and to carry out a technical audit.

17 – 18 Mar 59

"Blast Off" exercise, provided excellent opportunity for full exploitation of unit operational potential. Excellent training derived therefrom.

19 Mar 59

Two additional AN/FRT-501 transmitters received at TX site.

25 Mar 59

Squadron participated fully in exercise "Cue Ball 18" with control and surveillance functions exercised advantageously.

Two Bell Telephone wire chiefs were replaced by a representative of the Norwesto Communication Co.

New CE Administration went into effect.

Security infiltration test. Station volleyball team won section playoffs on 4 Apr, against Bagotville and St. Sylvestre.

Station Volleyball team won zone playoffs against AFHQ, Lachine, Goose Bay, Parent. Zone 4 Champions.

"Big Blast Persian Rug" (ECM) exercise.

8 patients admitted to infirmary during influenza epidemic.

"Big Blast Persian Rug" ECM exercise. Accident with Vehicle 396A26-1034 – minor damage.

"Cue Ball" exercise.

Received confirmation that NORAD concurs with ADC approval to raise operational status from that of Early Warning Squadron with ident function to that of Air Defence Direction Centre. Additional equipment and personnel together with operations room modifications to be phased in commencing as soon as possible.

6 – 7 May 59

Visit by Dr. Alderice – SDC representative at 2 ADCC and Mr. H. Jardine, DOT liaison at 2 ADCC. STP and AMIS problems discussed with gratifying results.

11 May 59

Operations establishment for controllers revised, consistent with planned increase in operational status. Now 4 F/Ls plus 8 F/Os vice 1 F/L 5 F/Os. Complete power failure caused by contractor severing power lines.

13 – 14 May 59

Sighting party.

Bell Show entertained Unit. Visit by A/C Reyno.

Participated in exercise "Booby Trap" with unit control facilities exploited to maximum potential.

20 – 29 May 59

NE overhaul party. Modified GRC-27 TX for continuous duty. Yearly inspection of UHF and VHF RX – TX test equipment.

Break in power line to tower caused by rain penetrating the temporary repairs carried out 11 May.

28 May 59

Arrival of 27060 F/O CJ Strong CD, assuming SAO position. 69 personnel despatched to assist in fighting forest fire on Moisie point.

29 May 59
