A Canadian General Electric overhaul party arrived on the station to check the FPS-6B.

Tri-region exercise "STM 306" – Battle Staff Manned (BS). Moderate invader problem. WO1 WAN Smith of ADC visited the unit to carry out an inspection of the Photo Section.

8 Dec 61

ADC/USAF exercise Mute I – BS. This involved control of 9 AW fighters. Results were 8 MA and 2 MI.

15 Dec 61

FS GE Montgomery of Station Lac St. Denis arrived on the station with the Field Maintenance Party and visited the ComCen.

Bi-sector exercise "STM 656" – BS. Moderate invader problem.

28 Dec 61

A Xmas party was held on the station for the children of the Maliotenam Indian Reserve. The various M&I on the station, instead of providing gifts for the member’s children, supplied the gifts which were donated to the Indian children.

Total intercepts for Dec – live 37, synthetic 82. Surveillance activity for Dec – 2467 tracks identified. Two aircraft experienced engine troubles and were assisted in diverting to the nearest air base.

RCAF ECM exercise "Bone Yard". No fighters involved. Primary purpose was technical staff training. ATR checking and experimentation with a few ECCM ideas.

A Westinghouse team visited the station for general site familiarization.

NORAD/ADC/USAF exercise Shock Wave II "Big Blast Purple" – BS. No tactical action involved for this unit. ECM effectiveness was variable from conditions 1 to 3 on both "L" and "S" bands. Surveillance picture was fair.

5 Feb 62

G/C KC Cameron visited the unit to brief telecom personnel on a new maintenance policy which was to be put into effect on 1 Apr 62.

9 Feb 62

W/C NJ Gallagher of ADCHQ/SORA/RC carried out his annual inspection on the unit.

S/Ls CA Brunger, EW McConnel and E Trottier provided a telecom briefing as a follow-up to G/C Cameron’s visit. F/Ls RW Crook and GRO Wonnacott of ADCHQ/SOPA visited the unit to observe on the general administration and the general operation of M&I on the station.

40789 F/L DH Washington CD was presented with a CAS Letter of Commendation by the CO in recognition of his outstanding services rendered while he was RCAF Liaison Officers to the 4601st Support Wing (DEW) (ADC) USAF.

Mr. G Zippel, technical representative of the Systems Development Corporation California, conducted a series of lectures and on-the-job training to radar technicians on the AN/GPS T2 assimilator.

Radio Station CFRM (Canadian Forces Radio Moisie) converted to new frequency 1340 Kcs. Total intercepts for Feb – live 1, synthetic 85. Surveillance activity for Feb – 2234 tracks identified. There were no unknown or emergencies during the month.

Exercise "Apache Gold". Involved no tactical action from this unit. Surveillance picture was very good. No ECM experienced. S/L DG Madill of ADC/SORA(P) visited the unit on an annual inspection.

S/L DL Thompson of ADC/SOMS arrived on the unit to discuss medical problems which might arise as the result of the deletion of the unit’s SMO position.

WO2 P Renouf ADC Explosives Inspector carried out an inspection of the unit armament stores and facilities.

NNR exercise "STM 401" – BS. Heavy invader problem.

Total intercepts for Mar – live 26, synthetic 74. Surveillance activity for Mar – 2422 tracks identified. There were no unknowns or emergencies.

Exercise "Bone Yard 3" – very good training exercise. Jamming quite effective on "L" and "S" bands; occasional traces of buzzer also. F/O JMO Miron ADC/ASWelO interviewed station personnel concerning welfare problems.

Exercise "Shock Wave III" – 8 commitments with USAF F-106s on targets. 7 MAs, 1 cancelled due to neutralization of Target. Surveillance picture was poor – occasional mix-up in tracking continuity.

S/L HA Pattinson, F/L OH Cline, F/L L Beasleigh of ADCHQ and F/L DA Ryan of Station St. Margarets conducted a five-day GCI evaluation on the unit.

Exercise "Bone Yard 3". Jamming most effective on "L" band – curved walking strobes blanking out 95% of scope. ATR in use. Total intercepts for Apr – live 34, synthetic 55, life faker intercepts 7. Surveillance activity for Apr – 2299 tracks identified. Two unknown tracks (E540 and E543) originating in Scabbard’s area identified by this unit as KC-97 – NFP in in-bound route. Nil emergencies for month.

NORAD/ADC/USAF exercise Shock Wave IV – BS. No tactical action taken this unit. Surveillance picture was very good.

RCAF ECM exercise "Bone Yard". Good training exercises, countermeasures employed throughout. STC good out to 80 miles. Jamming received on both L and S bands to maximum condition. F/O KL Webb FSV officer ADCHQ visited the unit and inspected the messing facilities.

There were no unknowns or emergencies. Construction progress: FPS-26 Tower (57%), FPS-27 Tower (87%), Power Plant (Extension) (62%), GATR Site (58%), SAGE Annex (17%).
