The following is a list of events, visits and major changes that took place during the year 1977;

  1. TITLE OF THE UNIT: - Canadian Forces Station Moisie.

UNIT IDENTIFICATION CODE: - 2371

CANADIAN FORCES ORGANIZATION ORDER: - # 2.58 dated May 1974

  1. MAJOR CHANGES IN FUNCTION:

15 July 1977: One of the last Height finders models FPS-26 (the other located in CFS Sydney) was closed this summer in CFS Moisie. The Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Poire symbolically turned off the operation of the FPS-26 which meant the end of our dual channel Height Finder capability and which was going to be replaced by a single channel Height Finder, the FPS-6B.

In the month of August 77, the FPS-6B was relocated to the Height Tower formally held by the FPS-26. The relocation was completed by the USAF team on 9 Nov 77. It was a race with time and weather which brought us snow the first week after the relocation. CFS Moisie now has only two radar radomes instead of the usual three radome configuration held during the last 25 years.

  1. MAJOR PROJECTS:
  1. SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT: The parts for the Sewage Treatment plant were received during 1977. The plan was partially completed but the work had to be stopped due to inclement weather. The plant should be in operation by June 1978.
  2. COMMERCIAL HYDRO: All the preparations to convert to commercial hydro were completed during 1977 but at the last minute, Quebec Hydro refused to synchronize the two systems due to safety hazards. Negotiations are still in progress and a final decision should be reached in 1978.

14 June 1977: - The Search and Rescue Team (9 members) participated in dragging operations trying to locate two fishermen believed drowned during a fishing expedition on the Moisie River.
