December 1955
On 1 Dec 55 Parent became an EW unit. The Fighter Controllers were sent to Lac St. Denis and Foymount to augment the controllers at these units. On 5 Dec 55, a simulated air defence readiness state was called for exercise "Crackerjack". The exercise terminated on 6 Dec. No intercept action was carried out by the unit during the exercise. New IFF equipment was installed during the month. One operational intercept was carried out during this period.
January 1956
The unit carried on as an EW unit except during overfly exercises. There was a total of five B47 and one B36 overflys during the month. Interceptions were carried out during two of these exercises. 61 operational and practice intercepts were completed.
February 1956
An EW state was maintained during the month. Three SAC overflys occurred in this time but Parent had no fighter participation. One practice alert was called to test the local alert system. All but two of the controllers returned from TD early in the month. 15 operational and practice intercepts were completed.
March 1956
Most of the controllers were away on TD during the month and the unit continued to operate as an EW site. A simulated air defence readiness state was called for a B47 overfly. Intercepts were carried out by local controllers. Two more overflys occurred but without any fighter participation by Parent. Yearly maintenance was conducted on the radar equipment late in the month. 37 operational and practice intercepts were completed.
April 1956
All controllers on TD had returned by the end of the month. The unit continued to operate as an EW except for exercise periods. Five SAC overflys occurred with Parent having fighter participation in four overflys. Aid was given in GCA installation checks at the Casey air strip. 211 operational and practice intercepts were completed.
May 1956
The unit continued to operate in its EW role. Cpl. Todd and LAC Arsenault did an excellent job in aiding a civilian aircraft in distress to land safely at Val d’Or. A simulated air defence readiness state was called for a B47 overfly in which the unit had fighter participation. Two other B47 overflys occurred with the unit conducting intercepts on one overfly. 396 operational and practice intercepts were completed during this month.
