The second ISG-98 Height Finder was removed from under the balloon in the right tower and replaced by a TPS-501.

21 Nov 55

The AN/FPS-6 was completely installed and calibration flight trials were commenced. On this date the unit technicians started to maintain the AN/FPS-6.

6 Jan 60

Northern Electric technicians arrived to commence FPS-508 installation. The Search Radar was taken off the air for conversion of the antenna assembly for use with the FPS-508. The FPS-3 equipment was dismantled.

22-28 Mar 60

The semi-annual overhaul of the 15J1D Radar target simulator was carried out by an RCA technician.

18 Aug 60

RCA Victor installation crew commenced work on the FPS-507 height finder installation.

10 Sep 60

The AN/GPS-501 (SIF) was completed to a point of limited capacity and used operationally.

24 Oct 62

Station Parent went on DEFCON 3C at 1732Z as a result of the Cuban situation. External security precautions were maintained.

3 Nov 62

ADC reduced to DEFCON 3B at 1632Z.

27 Nov 62

ADC returned to DEFCON 5A at 2355Z.

Station Parent became fully operational as part of the SAGE system (Ottawa Sector) after operating for 30 days on a trial basis under normal back-up conditions.

 

It is interesting to note that Parent’s unit was never called 14 Radar Squadron, which would have been expected after Parent became part of the SAGE system. All documents refer to this unit as an AC&W Squadron.
