Construction - Alterations to the CE Section Steelox building completed.

Sports Field - Construction of Baseball field and Tennis Court commenced.

VME - Tri-way Snow Plow received.

Dance - Annual Bowling Dance with presentation of trophies and prizes.

Staff Visit - F/L Everard, Command PR Branch arrived on temporary duty to discuss publicity for the forthcoming Carnival.

Operations - During the month of June there were 481 practice intercepts, 161 operational intercepts, 3,114 tracks plotted and 17 unknown tracks. The exercises were as follows: 3 Shakeups, 2 Cue Balls, 3 ECM, 6 Burnt Cork and 2 Jump Moat. Training was given to one Reserve Officer from 2453 AC&W Squadron, posted to this Unit for a two-week period.

PMQs - First PMQ furnished with public furniture.

Quarters - A 24 bed extension to the existing standard combined Quarters completed.

Staff Visit - S/L Hagyard, ADCHQ visited the Unit to carry out a SOAF audit.
26 - 27 Jul 58
Carnival - The annual Parent Summer Carnival was held. The Summer Sports Meet was won by Station Parent over Station Senneterre. Events included Rifle Shooting, swimming and diving races, boat races and Softball. Also highlighting the Carnival were the Kiddies Costume Parade, water-skiing Exhibition, Diving Exhibition, crowning of the Carnival Queen, Mustache contest, Dance and Floor Show and a gigantic Fireworks display. Air Commodore and Mrs. Bradshaw represented the AOC. A large press representation was flown in and much favorable publicity was received in a score of Canadian newspapers and magazines. (Appendix "A" and "B").

Radomes - Both radomes were painted by a civilian contractor.

Operations - During the month of July, there were 525 practice intercepts, 38 operational intercepts, 4,525 tracks plotted and 54 unknown tracks. The Exercises were as follows: 5 Burnt Cork and 2 Cage Bird. The intercept results were good with 4 MA and 2 MI.

Staff Visit - Lt. Colonel TL Marsh inspected the Dental facilities of the Unit and suggested many changes which were immediately put into effect.

Civilian Personnel - Mr. Paul Lemelin CSC Representative from Ottawa conducted Civil Service Competitions.
Transfer - F/O JM Forbes was transferred in as Communications Officer.

AMIS Circuit - AMIS circuit to Dorval put on trial basis.
12 Aug 58
Visit - Major Mullin (AFHQ), Mr. Cousins (AMC) and Mr. Olfman (Inspection Services) arrived on a UHF installation inspection.

Water Cooler - Installation of evaporative water cooler in Diesel Plant completed.
15 Aug 58
Recreation - Two softball teams from Senneterre visited the station for the Kent Cup and the Zone Playoffs. Senneterre won the Kent Cup and Parent the Zone Playoffs.

Transfer In - F/O FA Creelman was transferred from RCAF Station Sydney and took up his duties as Senior Supply Officer.
VME - The annual Safe and Skilled Driving Competition was held, with LAC R Audet, LAC JA Plamondon and LAC WA Neilson taking first, second and third places respectively. (Appendix "C")

Operations - During the month of August there were 630 practice intercepts, 69 operational intercepts, 3,554 tracks plotted and fifteen unknown tracks. The exercises for the month included Dawn Dance VI, a Broadcast Control exercise, 3 ECM exercises, 2 Shakeup and two practice Broadcast Control exercises.

Staff Visit - G/C ME Pollard, Sector Commander, 1 Sector, visited the Station.

Paving - Paving of municipal roads commenced.
Recreation - Station Parent was defeated in the Zone Payoffs by Station St. Johns.
11 Sep 58
Recreation - Eleven Officers and Airmen took part in the ADC Wire Track and Field Meet. F/O Hunt was successful in placing in two events and LAC Woodruff in one.
13 Sep 58
Visit - F/L Woodruff and a party of three civilians visited the Station on a survey connected with Scatter transmission equipment to be installed as an interim measure during the construction of ADCOM 11 link.
15 Sep 58
Installation - MRP Party for Northern Electric installed Halyardson Unit HF antennae and cut these antennae for new frequencies on Net 13.

Visit - Colonel R Feuiltault, Commanding Officer, Quebec Military Hospital, visited the Unit and made a thorough study of the medical facilities. (Appendix "D")

Staff Visit - Communications inspection was held by W/C Steeves of ADCHQ.

Fashion Show - The Station Airwomen staged a Fashion Show. Clothes were from Eaton’s, Montreal.

Operations - During the month of September there were 655 practice intercepts, 49 operational intercepts, 3,622 tracks plotted and 19 unknown tracks. The Exercises for the month were as follows: 3 Shakeup, 1 Profile, 3 Broadcast Control and 1 Cue Ball. F/L JH Cline attended the Rocket Meet at Station Cold Lake as Controller for 416 Squadron and received the highest Controller rating.

ADCOM 11 - Mr. R Beauchemin, Mr. FR Methot and Mr. R Cole arrived on the Station to make a power and space survey for the installation of ADCOM 11 equipment. Construction to commence May 59.

VHF/UHF - Annual overhaul of VHF/UHF and test equipment completed.
20 Oct 58
Vulnerability Test - Personnel from ADCHQ Security Branch conducted a Vulnerability Test. The team consisted of 9 saboteurs, however only one managed to reach a vulnerable part of the Station. The test was considered an outstanding success.

Visit - Bishop Sans Chargrin, Bishop of Amos, visited the Station together with C/G Gallagher, Command Chaplain (RC). (Appendix "E")
Football Rally - A Western Football Rally, complete with Parade, East-West Game and a Football Dance was held.

Technical - Twelve new UHF tactical frequencies were implemented for this Unit.

AN/FPS-3 - AN/FPS-3C prime search radar was peaked by this unit’s radar technicians with observers from other Units.
SOPA Audit - S/L Larcombe ADCHQ, visited the Station and completed a SOPA Audit.

Dance - An all-ranks Halloween Dance was held in the Recreation Centre.
Operations - During the month of October there were 509 practice intercepts, 163 operational intercepts, 4,388 tracks plotted and 41 unknown tracks. 2 local Exercises were arranged for the Air Staff Visiting Team. In addition there were 6 Broadcast Control exercises, 2 Shakeup, 1 Desk Top, 2 Cue Ball, 3 Chain Shot and 2 Big Blast. The intercept results were above average. The Commanding Officer, COpsO and GTO proceeded on temporary duty to Santa Monica for STP training.

Material - 20,000 lbs. of rigid radomes material was received off contract.

Material - 200 tons of Steelox material was received for Steelox PMQs.

VME - All VME maintenance, stock room and tool crib was moved from building 7 to building 8.
Swim Meet - ADC Wire Swim Meet for dependants was held. Seventeen children took part.

Bazaar - Women’s Auxiliary Bazaar was held.

New Arrivals - First Twins to be born at Station Parent to Cpl. and Mrs. T Fleming. (Appendix "F")

Maintenance - Replacement of twenty-two rotten poles on the power line was commenced.

Peaking - AN/FPS-6 prime height finder was peaked.

Staff Visit - S/L Low and WO2 Williams conducted a Supply Inspection.
Civilian Personnel - Mr. P Faguy and Mr. F Haughian visited the Station to discuss various aspects of civilian employment.

Staff Visit - W/C Rodger, ADCHQ Chaplain (P) visited the Unit and conducted Services in the Station Chapel.
30 Nov 58
Operations - During the month of November there were 345 practice intercepts, 31 operational intercepts, 2,328 tracks plotted and 18 unknown tracks. Exercises for the month included 2 STP exercises, 1 Chain Shot, 1 Main Frame, 1 Kovac. The Unit call sign was changed from Scooter to Battle-Axe. STP training exercises commenced at the beginning of the month. There was little intercept activity but this was more than made up by the synthetic STP.
