Mr. John A Warr, Field Supervisor for NORWESTO visited the telephone section on a routine check of procedures.

S/L McNeeley and WO Williams visited the CTSO from ADC Supply Section.

A two-man crew from Canadian General Electric arrived to perform modifications to FPS-507 during the "Peaking period"
11 - 13 Dec 59
FPS-507 off the air for scheduled peaking.

Vehicle 651B45-1013 (Stake truck) arrived this unit.
16 Dec 59
Interim hand-over of two classroom extension at Protestant School and one class room addition to the extension.

The Airmen’s and Airwomen’s lounge (Club 14) was reopened after being completely renovated. (Annex 1)
There was a Christmas Party for all dependant and civilian dependant children in the Rec. Hall. Over 250 presents were distributed.

The Protestant School put on "Scrooge" for their annual Christmas Concert. (Annex 1)

S/L Matusiak from AFHQ visited the Technical Section.
The RC School put on their annual Christmas Nativity Tableau.

First Steelox PMQ furnished (PMQ 77).

The Officers and Senior NCOs served Christmas Dinner to the airwomen and airmen in the Combined Mess. (Annex 2)

A New Year’s semi-formal Dance was held in the Rec. Hall for all ranks.
Recreation for the Month - The Ladies and Intersection Bowling Leagues were well under way. The Curling Rink was ready for the Curling season and four teams were formed for intersection Basketball. All sections and Messes had Christmas parties.
Operations - During the month of Dec there were 2 Chainshot, 1 Quickkick, 2 Boneyard and 10 STM exercises.

Radar Bowl Football Game - East vs. West personnel took part in a Football game which resulted in East personnel defeating West. (Annex 3)

Safety Supervisor commenced Safe Driving Standards program by 5 minute talks on morning work parade, the showing of safety films at MSE section and the re-testing of all drivers.

Northern Electric technicians arrive to commence FPS-508 installation.
11 - 13 Jan 60
F/L Thirlwall AFHQ Field Liaison Staff paid a visit to the CE Section.

S/L Cooke from ADC paid a staff visit.

The long lines were transferred from ADCOM I to the Westinghouse Troposcatter this date.

Recreation - The station Intersection Hockey League consisting of four teams was started.
Operations - During the month of Jan there were 4 Chainshot, 1 Chessmatch, 1 Coldwind, 1 Cueball and 1 STM exercises.
10 Feb 60
The search radar was taken off the air for conversion of the antenna assembly for use with the FPS-508. The FPS-3 equipment was dismantled.
Tests were run on two EU S12 Lister Blackstone engines.
12 Feb 60
The hand-over and acceptance meeting for the FPS-508 was held with F/O JM Forbes representing this unit. No flight trials were conducted as per AFHQ decision.
15 Feb 60
New main bearings were installed in Blackstone engines and both engines completely overhauled.
16 Feb 60
G/C WW Laughland ADC SOMS made a staff visit to the Station Hospital.
24 Feb 60
A visiting party made up of Mr. Ackerman of DND/IS, Mr. R Bennett and Mr. E Morgan of AMC arrived from Ottawa for 2 days to check progress on ADCOM II.

Mr. Jim Robson from Quebec City, Divisional Commissioner, Boy Scout Association was present at the Father and Son Banquet. (Annex 3)
29 Feb 60
ADCOM I equipment shut down for dismantling as it was no longer required.
Recreation - Kiddies activities were well under way - Basketball teams were organized. An intersection Sports Competition was held at Station Senneterre. The Station publicity Committee started to publish the weekly activity calendar.
Operations - During the month of Feb there were 4 Chainshot, 1 Coldwind and 1 Cueball exercises. Operations were closed from 4 - 7 Feb for repairs to radome.

S/L S Sansoucy of ADCHQ carried out a Staff inspection of Telecom installations and procedures.
6 Mar 60
The last Mass was said in the old log Chapel that has been used for both RC and Protestant Services for the past six years. The log building was taken over by the Boy Scout and Girl Guide Associations.

Mr. Ray Hall, RCA Maintenance Superintendent visited the unit to investigate the extent of damage and poor workmanship on the Search Radar rigid radome erected in Nov 59.

S/L Patterson AFHQ, Major Fulford DDP and F/L Woodruff AMCHQ visited the unit on a 2 day ADCOM II inspection.

Messrs. Fortier and Kendall, Trans Canada Telephone and Messrs. Jim and John Keenan, LaTuque Telephone Company, visited the unit regarding SAGE telephone installations.

The semi-annual overhaul of the 15J1D Radar target simulator was carried out by one RCA technician.

Furnishing of Steelox PMQs completed.
31 Mar 60
Recreation - This month there was a kiddies toboggan slide contest, a snow shoe hike, a station ski meet (Annex 4) and children’s figure skating lessons, and an open Badminton Tournament. RCAF Station Parent won the Roy Trophy in a mixed Bonspiel against the town of Parent. (Annex 4)
Operations - During the month of Mar there were 8 Chainshot, 1 Cueball, 1 Coldwind, 1 White Lightning and 3 ECM exercises.

There were 20 promotions on this unit including 7 to A/Cpl., 9 to Cpl. and 4 to Sgt.

The new CTSO S/L Brightwell reported in.
10 Apr 60
The new Chapel building was used for the first time. Lack of furniture necessitated the RC and Protestant personnel sharing the same wing. (Annex 5)

Sgt. Levy (AF) was appointed Game Warden.
26 Apr - 6 May 60
The annual overhaul of the AN/FPS-507 was carried out by Canadian General Electric personnel with the assistance of site technicians.
27 Apr 60
F/O Proctor of AMCHQ visited the unit for inspection of rigid radomes.
The installation of new transformer sub-stations and overhead transmission line from Ops site to sub-station was completed.
30 Apr 60
Recreation - The bowling league finals were held this month. A Sailing Dance was held to raffle off the old motor launch and to display the new motor boat and new sailing boat. The first fishing trips of the season were organized this month.
Operations - During the month of Apr there were 5 Chainshot, 2 Cueball, 1 Coldwind and 1 ECM exercise.

Replacing piping in Diesel Power plant commenced.
9 May 60
A six day Mission for RC Service personnel and dependants commenced. Reverend Father J McGreel of the Redemptorist Order conducted the Mission. Masses and instruction were given twice daily and special children’s classes were held.

F/L Machan ADC gave a SAGE briefing.
14 May 60
Reverend Father Real Couture, RC Chapel Padre, the choir and the Alter boys attended a supper in the Sgts. Mess in honour of Father McGreel. Father Couture presented gifts to each of the Alter boys for services rendered in the past six months.

An attempt was made to cover the uncaulked radome with a 100 by 100 foot sheet of plastic. The project ended in failure due to the lift of the breeze and weakness of the plastic.

A Fire Evacuation Drill was held for pupils of both the Protestant and RC Schools. (Annex 5)

The new CEO F/O Cantalon arrived.

White metal bearings in Blackstone diesel units were replaced with copper lead bearings.

F/O English took part in the annual Rocket Meet at Station Cold Lake and won the Tyndall Trophy for the best Controller.

Ground Improvement work was under way.
W/C Rodger Command Protestant Padre visited the Station.

Messrs. Jim and John Keenan of LaTuque Telephone Company spent the day on the unit discussing the installation of an unattended dial telephone system to provide service to PMQs.

Work got underway for the replacement of 25 Power/Telephone poles.
31 May 60
Hospital - There were two emergency medical airlifts during May.
Recreation - Boating and water skiing started on Rainbow Lake. Softball and Horseshoe leagues commenced.
Operations - During the month of May there were 2 Chainshot, 1 ECM, 1 Coldwind, 1 Cueball, 1 Big Blast and 1 White Lightning exercises.
