Section II COMMENTARY |
|||||||
Administration and Personnel: During this period several changes were made in key personnel, a current list of which follows: (see the matrix at the end of this report) During this period the Administrative Section was visited by a 30th Air Division Staff Assistance Team. As a result of this visit, a more efficient and time saving method of accounting for classified documents was established. Also improved were methods of requisitioning and distributing forms and publications. The status of discipline and morale is considered to be excellent. This is attributed to the elimination of several substandard airmen. Operations: The vertical plotting board was relocated and the plotting platforms modified to provide better accessibility to the station plotting board and to provide safer working conditions. The vertical board was moved forward one (1) foot and a three (3) level platform was built to replace the outdated two (2) level one. This section had two (2) staff visits during this period, one from the 30th NORAD Division (SAGE) and the other from 3rd NORAD Division. No discrepancies were noted. Communications and Electronics: Additional telephone cable installation consisting of fifty (50) cable pairs to the Receiver and one hundred (100) cable pairs to the Transmitter Site under C&E scheme 160-ADC-SG40-B and 11-AMCMA-041A9 was completed during this period with a temporary overhead cable being placed in three locations. The contract with installed buried cable will be completed when the ground thaws. Existing telephone cable was modified to provide additional thirty-six (36) pairs which will be used for new tactical circuits and administrative PBX extensions. Reference to the reports for periods ending 30 June 59 and 30 Sep 59, the SSA has been issued on the administrative dial PBX to be leased from the Northern Telephone Company. Some parts have arrived and installation target date is 1 May 1960. The tactical communications system which was to utilize 112A key boxes has been cancelled due to the incompatibility of that system with SAGE. Administrative central office trunks serving this station were changed from the Holtyre manual office to the new Ramore dial office on 7 March 1960. One (1) 0A-175 radar scope was overhauled by CAE and installed in place of an 0A-99 scope. Test equipment has been ordered to enable this station to meet the standards set for equipment performance in accordance with ADCM 66-7 and to satisfy the requirement for 98% station capability as established by 4602nd SUPP WG (ADC). Supply: During January 1960 the re-warehousing of Technical Supply was completed. The large bulky bins were removed and replaced by cabinet storage with drawers, thereby not only improving the appearance, but increasing the efficient handling of stock and reducing to a minimum the possibility of error. As a direct result of this project, supply support to the prime equipment has been greatly improved and received a status of "excellent" in a recent Staff visit from 4602nd SUPP WG (ADC). Project "Count" procedures went into effect 15 Jan 60. The preliminary actions prepared the supply records and stock for the station-wide inventory which began on 1 February 1960 and continued throughout the month. All phases of project "Count" were completed prior to the established deadline, with very satisfactory results. A complete review of the CAN/MEAL and UAL was accomplished during March 1960. This was the first major review of the CAN/MEAL in approximately eight (8) years with the result that deletions of line items reached major proportions. Civil Engineering: The largest expenditure for maintenance and repair continues to be for the heating system. Approximately six hundred and eighty-four (684) man hours were required this quarter for the heating system. This station feels that the present system steam with oil fired boilers should be replaced with individual forced air heaters in each building utilizing natural gas which is now available and is less expensive. |
