    Communications and Electronics Branch:

CEM Office – During this quarter the CEM Section had a QC Inspection and received a satisfactory rating. Captain Mock and S/Sgt. Petitt received their new assignments, with Captain Mock going to Frankfurt, Germany and S/Sgt. Petitt going to Burns, Oregon. S/Sgt. Gillaspy arrived in late November to replace S/Sgt. Petitt who has since left for Oregon. Two promotions were received in the office with S/Sgt. Gillaspy being promoted to T/Sgt. and A/1C Hart to Sgt.

MCC – The MCC Section received a satisfactory rating on the recent QC Inspection during the past quarter. Sgt. Burton received word that his new assignment will be at Homestead AFB, Florida. The section gained T/Sgt. Bence in November and lost Sgt. Hyatt to Lowery AFB, Colorado. Sgts. Burton and Kelley sewed on their S/Sgt. stripes the 1st of December. Also on the promotion list was M/Sgt. Banta who put on his SM/Sgt. stripes the 1st of November. SM/Sgt. Banta also has been acting First Sergeant while Sgt. Reynolds is on leave.

Communications Center – During the month of October T/Sgt. Chavez departed PCS to Beale AFB, California. Sgt. Labmeyer departed in November for separation. Our manning situation became critical during October and assistance was asked from 37th Air Division. They responded by sending S/Sgt. Jones TDY for sixty days. He departed on 24 November after performing an outstanding job. A/1C Womack was also sent here TDY for sixty days. He arrived on 6 November and is due to depart 6 January 1969. Sgt. Collins departed on thirty days ordinary leave during October. We gained S/Sgt. Gorham in December who is to replace T/Sgt. Couture until the T/Sgt. who is projected for early February arrives. Assistance was also needed for the teletype maintenance section during this period. S/Sgt. Marshall was sent to us TDY from Custer AFS, Michigan. He departed this station 20 December after doing an outstanding job. The telephone in the Communications Center now meets with all the provisions of KAG-1D. A surprise but welcome promotion was received in the Communications Center in December. Sgt. Yeakley was promoted to the rank of S/Sgt.

Wire Maintenance – Wire maintenance lost one 36231, Airman Welch, during this period. Airman Paluck was reassigned to a stateside assignment. This vacancy in Teletype Maintenance was filled on a TDY basis by S/Sgt. Marshall on loan to us from Custer AFS, Michigan. Sgt. Williams, 36350, is a projected PCS gain to arrive this organization approximately 27 December 1968. The 05 (Lower Camp) cable developed a leak which necessitated splicing a new section of cable into the 05 cable. This same cable was reterminated in the newly constructed Lower Camp composite building. Several Communications Center circuits were rehabilitated in order to better fill Communications requirements. Included in these circuits were the Fire Alarm and Solid Tone Alert Signal. A major overhaul of the GTA-6 equipment was accomplished in the Operations area. Several 10 line units were redistributed and terminated on new scope positions. Circuits were also rearranged or removed to better utilize available equipment. This section was visited by the 37th Air Division Staff Assistance Team and received a satisfactory rating.

Radio Maintenance – Due to the efforts of S/Sgt. Lafon, Radio Maintenance was able to turn in two complete AN/GRC-27 ground to air UHF radio units and one VHF Canadian set FRT-502. We were able to procure one AN/GRT-3 set thereby, placing all our operational channels on single channel equipment. The results of our semi-annual QC inspection proved satisfactory. We were happy to be the hosts of the QC inspection team during our first high winds of the season. One of the MARS antennas was the only loss suffered by radio during the wind storm. S/Sgt. Lafon ended his TDY tour in the earlier part of December. His visit will long be remembered due to the unbelievable hours he spent in overtime work toward improving the Radio Section and the site’s public address and AFRTS systems.

Radar Maintenance – ADC modification C-670118 performed on both channels of UPX-14 to provide outboard exhaust motors (increased power supply cooling). TCTO 31P6-2FPS2N-612 performed on 26 December 1968, replacement of high voltage rectifiers with silicon diode modules. ADC Certificate of Recognition of 6 months no major malfunctions received on FPS-93A. Personnel assigned at 8 with UMD of 14. GPA-30 Video Mapper placed in continuous 24 hour per day operation in November. Staff Assistance Visit in November, critical tool shortage exists in shop. A/1C James I Perry was selected as Squadron Airman of the Month for the month of December.

    Supply and Services Branch:

In accordance with squadron directives the following Quarterly Historical Report is submitted. Personnel losses and gains for this reporting period:

(see the matrix at the end of this report)

The total number of aircraft processed by Supply during this period was: 13 DC-3 flights and 10 DC-4 flights. The total outgoing cargo including mail was 27,718 pounds and 170 passengers. The total incoming cargo including mail was 142,579 pounds and 107 passengers. Due to the fact that the BX manager is on leave at this time, there is no input for the BX. The Material Control Section processed three (3) NORS conditions during this period.

In summarizing, Supply, Food Service and POL Sections have received ample supplies of items required to maintain the site during this period. The Material Control maintained a 97.5% in normal bench stocks minimum level and expanded range bench stock for the majority of the quarter. At present there are no problems anticipated.

    Medical Services Branch:

A total of 187 patients were seen during this reporting period. The first three weeks of December a flu epidemic was on the site. Thursday the 12th of December Dr. Ray, a Flight Surgeon from Goose AB, was requested to pay us a visit, at this time he saw 50 patients. Within a week all patients were well on the road to recovery. S/Sgt. Dennis Brumback was referred to Goose AB, for a dental appointment. One hour "Fist Aid Buddy Care" was given to newly assigned personnel. Presently assigned personnel are: T/Sgt. Lawrence W Rutt, and T/Sgt. Carl S McReynolds.

    Operations Branch:

The 924th AC&W Squadron Operations section participated in no live and 9 simulated exercises during this quarter. Unit personnel received valuable training in these missions and contributed largely to their success at higher echelons.

Seven NCOs and five airmen departed PCS. Newly gained personnel were four NCOs and one NCO TDY. (TDY NCO is for 60 days, T/Sgt. GK Martin).

Due to the large loss of personnel and few replacements Operations has suffered a severe loss of experience and considerate increase in the training load. The majority of the replacements have no Manual Radar experience. This places a tremendous burden on the Training Section. Strong emphasis continues to be placed on both upgrade and proficiency training.

    Civil Engineering Branch:

Personnel Changes – Arrivals: T/Sgt. Dale Claypoole, Vehicle Maintenance, 2 October 1968 from James Connelly AFB, Texas. Departures: Sgt. Leonard Jones, Administrative Specialist, 30 December 1968 to Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.

There were no fires during the last quarter.

There were no reportable Ground Safety accidents during the quarter.

Construction of the Composite building has reached 95% complete as of 31 December 1968.

Pinsent Construction Company completed SAG 2-8, maintain paint fuel storage tank and line, and SAG 3-8, maintain paint antenna tower TACAN. They were completed on 15 October 1968.

The Mobile Maintenance Team departed this station on the 20th of December, 1968.

Work orders that were completed were:

(see the matrix at the end of this report)

Work to be completed next quarter.

(see the matrix at the end of this section)

    Information:

The following AFRTS personnel were reassigned during this period: A/Sgt Ted K Hart, S/Sgt. Roger L Hargens, S/Sgt. Michael T Lieb.

Since 10 December 1968, our television and radio stations have been operational only through volunteer help. At any rate, the station has remained operational. Three AFRTS personnel were projected to fill the above vacancies of which I am the first to arrive. At this writing, I am proceeding with approximate additions and deletions necessary to stable and controlled station functions.

During this period, A Mr. Kreis, (GS-13), from the Sacramento, California AFRTS Deport, made the following recommendations upon the completion of the annual AFRTS Survey Report: (a) Completely new television and radio broadcasting equipment. (b) Television service to our Lower Camp. (c) FM radio broadcast system.

These recommendations were made to USAF through the 924th AC&W Squadron, 37th Air Division, 1st Air Force and ADC. These recommendations, if approved will be included in fiscal year 1970’s budget.
