Welcome to the 924th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron
The men of the 924th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron welcome you to Saglek Bay and to the best in the chain of radar installations of the 64th Air Division. We are proud of our site and shall endeavor to make your stay a comfortable one. Feel free to make use of our facilities. Whether you will be with us overnight, or for a year you may expect to be treated as one of us.
We are perched high on a hill overlooking the sea. The weather is frequently severe because of our Sub-Arctic latitude and lofty position. However, the site is so constructed (all buildings are inter-connected by heated corridors), that in the pursuit of your normal duties the effects of wind and temperature are negligible.
On the following pages are listed WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE 924TH. Look them over and you will soon become familiar with what we have to offer. We are happy to have you with us.

OUR HISTORY
Formed at Grenier Air Force Base, New Hampshire, in July 1953, our squadron moved to its present location in the early part of December of the same year. Since then we have successfully performed our delegated ADO mission despite the efforts of weather, our foremost local obstacle, to impede our progress.
OUR MISSION
The 924th AC&W Squadron is responsible for the accomplishment of a two-fold mission:
DUTY HOURS of the 924th are from 0800 to 1700 Monday through Friday and from 0800 to 1200 on Saturday. Sections which operate on a shift basis maintain their own schedules.
THE UNIFORM of the day is KHAKI. Fatigues are optional for airmen. Civilian clothing may be worn after duty hours.
MESS HOURS for airmen listed below apply seven days a week:

OUR POST EXCHANGE - a branch of the Goose Air Base exchange is adequately stocked with luxury goods as well as personal necessities. Open every day, except Sunday, its hours are as follows:

BILLETING
Surcharge for transient officers and civilians is 50 cents per night. Linen is provided through the Billeting Officer.
Permanent Party Officers are assigned private rooms by the Billeting Officer. Linen may be obtained from Supply.
Permanent Party Airmen are assigned private rooms by the First Sergeant. Linen may be obtained from Supply.
Transient Airmen are billeted in private rooms when available.
CLOTHING
Minor uniform and clothing needs can be satisfied at the Post Exchange.
BARBER SHOP
Located opposite the library. It is usually operated in the evenings. The price is 50 cents.
LAUNDRY AND DRY CLEANING
We regret that no dry cleaning facilities are available at this site. Automatic washing machines and dryers are conveniently located in the washrooms of all BQs.
MEDICAL FACILITIES
Limited medical facilities exist. Minor ailments or injuries can be treated at the Dispensary. In emergencies, patients are flown to the hospital at Goose Air Base.
SPECIAL SERVICES
Lounges - Each BQ contains a comfortable lounge provided with book and magazine racks, comfortable furniture and a Ping Pong table. A pool table is set up in the Airmen's Club.
Library - A branch of the Goose Air Base Library, located in the Airmen's day room, is open seven days a week.
Movie schedule - Moving pictures, delivered from Goose Air Base weekly, are shown each evening in the Base Theater at 1815, 2015 and 2400 hours.
KSAG - Squadron "radio" station, broadcasts over speakers strategically located around the site. Local and stateside news, records, and transcribed broadcasts are featured.
Fishing - in nearby lakes and bays is good. Fishing tackle may be secured from the Special Services Office, located in the library.
A photo lab is established in room adjacent to the Temperature Control Warehouse and is available for your use after duty hours. Photo supplies can be purchased in the Exchange. A reservation is needed.
Educational Facilities - include complete opportunities to enroll in USAFI courses, college correspondence studies, and GED certification. For information, check at Station KSAG.
Physical Fitness - an exercise room for boxing and weightlifting has been set up in the Motor Pool. Basketball, volleyball and badminton courts will be available in the Motor Pool. Equipment will be checked out with Special Services.
MARS STATION
This station is maintained in the Airmen's Lower Bay. Operating seven days a week, it provides a MARSGRAM and phone patch service between Saglek, other stations in the command and MARS Stations in the States. You may file a card with MARS personnel if you wish to make contact with friends or relatives in the States.
RELIGIOUS SERVICES
Are held in the theater whenever a Chaplain is available. Announcements will be over the loudspeaker system.
NO BANKING FACILITIES
There are no banking facilities available at this site. Valuables may be left in the custody of the Adjutant.
MAIL ROOM
Mail Room is located in the Orderly Room. A mail drop is located outside the Orderly Room in the corridor. Numbered Mail Boxes are provided for Permanent Party Airmen. Personnel on TDY Status should clear the mail room upon arrival and departure. Mail Call will be announced over the Public Address System. Call for mail by Box Number, rather than by name. Buy sufficient stamps on payday from the Base Exchange for at least thirty-five (35) days. See the Squadron Mail Clerk for mailing regulations, postage fees and Custom Tags for packages.
