Section II COMMENTARY |
|||||||
Operations: During this period the squadron was awarded the 64th Air Division "A" Award. The Certificate for Outstanding Operational Achievement, for the period 13 January 1960 to 15 January 1961. The Certificate was presented to the Squadron Commander by Major General Dale O Smith, Commander of the 64th Air Division, at a dining-in ceremony at Goose Air Base during May. Excellent performance has continued during live and simulated exercises. An intensive program of ECM and ECCM training was conducted, with maximum utilization of training films. Several facilities improvements were made in the Operations Section during this period. Personnel: Projected manning has improved considerably, particularly in the supply and administrative fields. Several Staff Sergeants were placed on OJT to the 7 skill level. A new suspense system for airmen performance reports was established to preclude the forwarding of late reports. The selective re-enlistment program for this period showed negative results, however one airman was re-enlisted under provisions of an earlier cycle. Manning in Radar Maintenance and Supply was augmented by the assignment of TDY personnel. Equipment Performance and Facilities: All equipment performance difficulties were corrected satisfactorily, and although some time was lost to ROCP conditions, it was kept to an absolute minimum. The Food Service and Operations sections were renovated to some extent; major facilities installed were a dias table in Operations, and a "Mechanical Cow" milk-making machine in Food Service. A mobile maintenance team arrived to perform annual maintenance on station facilities. Personnel from the 64th Air Division office of Civil Engineering performed staff visits during this period. The runway terminal building was renovated, and the runway striping was repainted. The dispensary at the Support Section was relocated to more suitable quarters. Supply: Present and projected Supply manning is now satisfactory. Extensive preparations were made for arrival of supply ships during July under the SONEC system. Morale: Several activities have contributed toward maintaining excellent morale. A considerable number of new books have been received for the Library, and a new day room facility has been established. Several squadron members have spent their off-duty time in repairing and renovating what will become a diesel powered boat for squadron fishing trips. |
