MEMORANDUM
18 July, 1955
ASR/SR4-2
Siting 1955-56 Construction Programme
# 13 AC&W Squadron, Ste. Marie, PQ
1. - The attached print (Drawing #S66-1-1001-1A, Revision 10) shows recommendations for the proposed locations of structures included in the a/n programme as follows:
- Administration Building, #16
- Chapel Building, #17
- Stage II of Rec. Hall, Swimming Pool Extension, Building #8
- 1-Bay Fire Hall, Building #60
- 7-Bay ME Extension, Building #18
- Administration Building #16
- The building would be located with the major axis in E/W direction at a clear distance of 340 feet NE from the Unit Maintenance, Building #6, on the opposite side of the main road.
- The site is in the domestic area and is equidistant from the opposite area and the main gate. It is convenient to the Quarters and PMQ area.
- The building orientation is correct, and parking space can be economically developed.
- A 600 feet steam extension is required. The estimated cost is $29,000.00. This main would also serve the Fire Hall.
- Water and sewer mains are within 150 feet of the site and are of adequate capacity.
- A Quonset hut, 80’ x 40’ in plan must be removed from the site. This hut is used for temporary storage purposes.
- The site is preferred by the Unit and Command, but they have suggested that the building be rotated counterclockwise 90 degrees in order to have a N/S orientation. This orientation would take advantage of the favorable ground contours and natural tree cover.
- The exact siting of this building cannot be determined until a topographical survey has been made. The advisability of siting this building on the opposite side of the access road should also be considered on completion of the topographical survey.
- Chapel, Building #17
- The building is situated with the major axis in a N/S direction, at 110 feet clear distance westerly from PMQ #3 on the opposite side of the street.
- This is a central location equidistant from the Quarters and PMQ areas.
- Water and sewerage services are adjacent to site and are of ample supply.
- The building would be heated by a separate heating unit.
- The location is concurred in by the Unit and Command.
- Stage II of Rec. Hall, Swimming Pool Extension, Building #8
- The site is sand and gravel fill, and slopes to the east. Extra fill is required at eastern edge of site.
- The site is satisfactory to the Unit and Command.
- 1-Bay Fire Hall, Building #60
- The site is located 250 feet clear distance north of the Unit Maintenance, Building #6. The site is equidistant from the Operations Area and the Main Gate, and it is in the domestic area.
- Water and sewerage utilities are within 50 feet of site, and are of adequate capacity.
- The site is 500 feet from the ME area.
- The steam main serving the proposed Administration Building site will be within fifty feet and is of adequate capacity.
- This site is now occupied by a two-story frame building, 100’ x 70’ T-shaped plan. This structure was used for a contractor’s mess and must be removed from site.
- The site is concurred in by the Unit and Command.
- 7-Bay ME Extension, Building #18
- The building would be situated with the major axis in E/W direction, at a clear distance of 100 feet westerly from the Central Heating Plant, Building #50.
- The site is in the ME area and parking space can be economically developed.
- The water and sewerage mains are within 50 feet of site and are of adequate supply.
- The steam supply will require 150 feet of main at an estimated cost of $7,500.00.
- The site is low and will require extra fill. It encroaches upon the Rec. field but the building location has been chosen to minimize interference.
- This location is concurred in by the Unit and Command.
- It is to be noted that Construction Costs would be reduced if the a/n structures were built as a package unit.
- It is requested that these proposals be submitted to AD & PC for approval of siting.
