Radar – 1 each AN/FPS-20A, 1 each AN/FPS-90, 1 each AN/GPX-7A, 1 each AN/GPX-14, 1 each AN/GPA-30, 1 each AN/GPS-T2A, 7 each 0A-175 PPI, 2 each UPA-35 PPI, 5 each 0A-99 PPI, 1 each AN/GPS-T-4, 1 each AN/GPS-T2, 2 each OA/929.

Operations:

During the period 1 July – 30 September the 640^th NORAD Control Center participated in ten (10) live, fifteen (15) STP, and five (5) ECM missions generated by Northern NORAD Region and Goose NORAD Sector. The ALCOP function was established and completed. A Northern NORAD Region Staff visit was conducted on 19 August by Lt. Colonel Beale, NNR SAC Liaison Officer, lt. Colonel Stodgill, F/L Wolff, NNR Exercise Division and S/Sgt. Barlow, NNR SAC Liaison Officer. During this reporting period the following Officers were assigned: 1^st Lt. Robert M Durbin, A03134749 and 2^nd Lt. George T Dicarlo, A03137979.

Communications:

Three new Jack-Strips have been installed on the switchboard which will assist the operator and help prevent accidental disconnects and poor connections. A new night alarm system has been installed to assist the operator and possibly give quicker answering service. On 5 Aug, 1^st Lt. David A Pfaff replaced 1^st Lt. Kenneth L Fraze as Crypto Custodian. The Communications Center gained five (5) and lost three (3) persons during this period.

Radio Maintenance:

During this period the bench stock was relocated to the work area, cable trough covers, work benches, and the fuel tank were repainted, and the receivers and transmitters were repositioned in their racks to simplify maintenance. Also, in the time period the power cable entrances to the building were winterized, equipment room and office area were repainted and half of the equipment racks were repositioned and antenna cables were re-routed to make the area more uniform. Personnel gained was three (3) and lost was three (3). Projected projects: new audio and keying lines for all equipment and completion of building painting.

Unit Supply:

During September, Mr. Wright, HQ, GADS, performed an inspection of the operating procedures. During the reporting period Storage Section "A" was repainted and A/1C Hood was loaned to the Dining Hall to operate the cold storage area and pick up rations from EHAFB. This section lost one (1) and gained three (3) new personnel including a new NCOIC in M/Sgt. C Prather.

Food Service:

Some interior painting of the Dining Hall was been accomplished. Some new items of equipment have been received. Losses and gains of personnel during this period have been equal at four (4) each.

Radar Maintenance:

During the period rerouting and rewiring of the video in operations was completed. TCTO 43E10-3-9-506 on the AN/GPS-T4 was started and had to be postponed until a later date due to personnel shortage. This section is now operating with a total of nine (9) people out of an authorization of fifteen (15). Expect modification to be completed by 15 Nov 1964. The Radar Maintenance Section won the FY 1964 26t^h Air Division Maintenance Management Award for the Magnetron in the AN/FPS-90. This piece of equipment had 20,536 radiate hours and at the end of September had approximately 24,000 hours. A GADS Quality Control Inspection was conducted 8-10 October 1964. All sections were satisfactory.

Security:

During this reporting period sufficient personnel have been assigned to eliminate the use of augmenting guards at the main gate. The Air Police Section has occupied its new office in the Operations Building extension. After modifications are completed in the new building the main gate will be consolidated with the office. This move is to provide a more strict control to operations on the "right" and "need" basis. A new pellet type pistol and rifle were ordered to aid in training personnel with the .38 Caliber pistol and .30 Caliber rifle.

Civil Engineers:

From 1 July – 30 September the following activities occurred: An oil tanker delivered 14,000 barrels of fuel oil, the exterior of one and interior of two buildings were painted, feedwater lines to the heating plant were replaced, ground safety boards were erected in the heating plants and C&E Section and Bowling Lane maintenance was completed. Repair of building 1533 and POL storage was completed along with painting of various facilities and maintenance steam lines.

Transportation:

CWO Sands assumed duties of assistant Transportation Officer and S/Sgt. Warnoch the duties of NCOIC.

Personnel:

Major Anthony W Liebeck, C&E Officer departed to Phoenix ADS, Luke AFB, Arizona and was replaced by Major Robert A Gould from the 798^th RADRON, Illinois. Lt. Kenneth L Fraze, Communications Officer, departed for pilot training at Craig AFB, Alabama, and was replaced by Lt. David A Pfaff from Selfridge AFB, Michigan.
