Section II COMMENTARY |

Personnel: Lt. Colonel John H Fuss arrived from Bellefontaine AFS, Ohio and assumed command 18 November 1965 replacing Lt. Colonel William F Will Jr., who was assigned to Ent Air Force Base, Colorado. Promotions for this period were: To M/Sgt., T/Sgt. Nigh and T/Sgt. Charette; To T/Sgt., S/Sgt. Hancock and S/Sgt. Wooten; To S/Sgt., A/1C Lindsey and A/1C Whitler; To A/1C, A/2C Alexander and A/2C Lee. A/2C Harold H Arnold, Clerk was compassionately reassigned to ZI on 14 Oct 65. A/1C Juan A Virgil was assigned to Orderly Room as a clerk on 15 Dec 65. Operations: The Operations Section underwent a Standardization Evaluation conducted by Goose Air Defense Sector on the 25th and 26th of October 1965. Results were satisfactory. Air Defense Exercises conducted during this period were: Sector Live 1, Bi-Tri Region Live 3, and Desk Tops (SSTM) 4. A training and standardization conference was held in this Section with representatives from the 226th and 921st AC&W Squadrons on the 9th and 10th of December 1965. Effective 20 December 1965 for a period of 20 days this Section operated on a 12 hour shift crew schedule to accommodate holiday leaves. Personnel gains during this period were: Officers 2, Enlisted 5. C&E: During the period 13-15 Oct 65, a GADS Quality Control Inspection was conducted by the GADS QC Inspection team. A rating of satisfactory resulted from this inspection. On 17 Nov 65 the OA-4381 receiver group for the AN/FPS-93A Search Radar was accepted from the Contractor. This is the ECCM receiver. Unit Supply: During the period of this report personnel changes were A/1C Spears was loaned to the Mail Room to fill a temporary vacancy, and S/Sgt. McCann arrived on station and assumed the duty of Material Control. Action has been taken to inventory all BEMO equipment in the consolidation of accounts. This is in preparation for the transfer of all accounts from Harmon AFB BEMO to the new support base. New equipment requirements are necessary as the result of the Harmon AFB phase-out. This equipment is being placed on order. Plans are being formulated in the linen, tool, individual equipment, and expendable supply areas after Harmon AFM is no longer able to give this station support. Food Service: During this quarter this section has a gain of one cook, S/Sgt. Barney Solomon which gives this section a total of ten assigned personnel. Accomplishments for the quarter were: two new stoves were installed, and the dining room was gaily decorated for both the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. Both Thanksgiving and Christmas meals were a success and many favorable comments were received on both meals. The dining hall operated within the prescribed monetary allowance during this period. No problems exist in this section and morale is at an all time high. Civil Engineer Section: A number of improvements have been completed by O&M and MCP contracts, including: Completion of the Multi-Purpose building in December (Building on beneficial occupancy pending AF acceptance); Project (STE 4-3) for installation of latrine and sewage lift station at Pole Vault building was completed in December. Alteration of building 1521 (Radome Tower) for transfer of transmitter/receiver equipment from building 1570 is 50% complete. Hiring overhires on a temporary status for snow removal during the winter months. New control wires were installed on all diesel engines in the Power Plant. A major overhaul maintenance of all diesel engines was accomplished by CMC. |
