The most significant event in Operations was the modification of the Operations Room according to ADC Standard Operations Plan. It was completed 25 March 1958.

A very limited number of intercepts have been assigned to the 916^th during missions. In fact, within the last 9 months, the F-102s from 11^th FIS at Duluth, Minnesota have been under Boxfile’s control for only one exercise. During this exercise FINALE 14-18 April 1958, the 916^th was evolved with two missions on the 14^th of April and received control of three flights, attaining a high degree of success.

At the present, ECM runs are practically non-existent, however, the WEX VAL Missions scheduled 20 August to 15 October should rectify this situation.

The strength of the personnel assigned has remained fairly stable throughout this three month period.

However, the squadron has received more than its share of substandard and marginal airmen in the recent months. It would seem that stations within the ZI are filling most of their overseas quotas with irresponsible and financially burdened airmen. A letter has been forwarded to Colonel Gillespie, Commander of the 31^st ADIV, regarding this situation.

AN/TPS-502 is performing at its maximum capability but the set isn’t capable of accomplishing the squadrons mission. The AN/FPS-6 isn’t programmed until January, February and March of 1959 with the AN/FPS-7 expected exactly two years later.

CAE has completed the following IRAN lists: (1) 10 March – Telecomm, IFF, and Pressurization. (2) 27 April – Test Equipment; and (3) 4 June – Radio Antenna and Lines.

Hall Walin Construction Company from Kenora, Ontario started working on the new Supply warehouse during the last week of April 1958.

Several new projects such as a new wash house and re-surfacing of the road in the lower trailer court, plus modifications in the base housing are planned early in the coming fiscal year.

Supply should maintain its own organizational Arctic Clothing supply. Under the present arrangement, reporting personnel must go to the 343^rd Fighter Group at Duluth, Minnesota to check out their Arctic clothing and this situation creates too many overages here.

Community relations have taken another step in the right direction with the Squadron sending its fire truck to help put out a grass fire during the last week of May.

Also the 916^th has entered a team in the Eastern Manitoba Amateur Baseball League which started 20 May. A softball team was organized 22 June to participate in local tournaments.

The morale of the 916^th troops seem to have definitely improved with the arrival of good weather and increased participation in sporting events.

The 916^th Squadron placed third in the annual 31^st ADIV Ship-Shape Award.
