Beausejour, MB

During the period covered by this report, intercept activity and director proficiency increased. A commitment of approximately 40% of interceptor flights available in the Grand Forks Sector was made to this station.

In February a complete analysis of radar and communications equipment needed to accomplish the mission of the squadron was made. This analysis was compared to existing equipment, and requests were submitted to higher headquarters for needed additional equipment. On 29 March, verbal word was received that approval had been granted to transfer two (2) UPS-35 and one (1) 0A-175 radar scopes to this unit.

In February, the unit received a Tactical Evaluation by 29^th Air Division Headquarters. Results of the evaluation were satisfactory.

The squadron dining hall was improved by the addition of murals to the walls of the Airman’s Dining area.

During the period of this report there was an outbreak of measles and chickenpox among the dependant children of the station. No other changes of importance within the dispensary. In January and March, Dental clinic personnel were TDY to this station, also in January the Dispensary received a Staff visit by Captain Southworth from Grand Forks AFB.

During this period, two SAGE voice circuits to the Duluth SAGE Direction Center were installed and became operational. The receive only teletype circuits for overlap telling between this station and Grand Forks and Duluth Air Defense Sector became operational. A request was submitted to authorized installation of 18 ten-line operator units to the central office equipment. Action was taken to obtain authorization and installation of two additional single UHF equipment. A letter was submitted to the 4602^nd requesting a suitable public address system and allocation of maintenance and operating funds. The Manitoba Telephone Company installed a speaker-amplifier system on DND 1067 in Operations.

The town of Beausejour, Manitoba, sponsored a Winter Ice Carnival during the month of March. Mrs. Mary Tramwell, wife of A/2C Harold Tramwell, represented the 916^th Squadron in the Carnival Queen Contest. The base made an all out effort in her behalf and contributed greatly to the success of the Carnival.

The Squadron Basketball team completed competition in the Winnipeg Senior "B" League by taking the title of Champions in the final play-offs during March.

The Squadron has sponsored numerous base tours during the reporting period. These tours, conducted by NCO’s. consisted of a lecture by the Commander and a visit to each section with a short demonstration in Operations.
