Radio station CHNS called seeking information on a TCA emergency. Halifax tower was contacted and it was revealed that TCA 709, a ferry flight to Montreal with one dead engine, had another engine on fire over Tucker Lake. The aircraft subsequently landed safely at Halifax International. S/L Mahoney of ADCHQ paid a one day visit to check control procedures.

Practice intercepts with F-89J aircraft. Fog has been preventing intercept activity with F2H aircraft for several evenings.

21 Jul 61

Scheduled evening operations with 870 Squadron cancelled because of fog. Practice intercepts with F-89J aircraft.

Several land lines were out for 30 minutes because of trouble in the Newcastle, NB area.

24 Jul 61

Difficulties with the MF transmitter still evident. Practice intercepts with F-106 aircraft. Emergency declared by an inbound Argus aircraft with engine trouble. Emergency cancelled after the Argus crossed the coast line. Scheduled intercepts with F2H aircraft again cancelled because of fog at Shearwater.

Four F2H aircraft given surveillance on route to rendezvous with HMCS Bonaventure. ECM exercise held with a C-119 as target and two CF-100 Chatham based aircraft as interceptors.

Soviet IL-18 designated "Special 21" landed at Halifax International at 1254Z. This aircraft carried Yuri Gagarin and entourage from Cuba to Halifax to be the guests of Cyrus Eaton.

6 Aug 61

At 0931Z this unit was advised by St. Margarets that Russia had launched another space vehicle carrying a Major Titov into orbit. Soviet IL-18 (Aero Flot 75708) carrying Yuri Gagarin departed Halifax at 1755Z. Carried by this unit as track X623. At 1820Z the track was being carried by Sydney.

7 Aug 61

870 Squadron Shearwater are conducting night flying during the period 7-11 Aug. This unit can expect intercept control activity on these evenings. Practice intercepts with F2H aircraft.

8 Aug 61

Excessive water usage was reported by the pump house operator. Source of trouble was determined to be the flush valve of a toilet receptacle located on the second floor of the Operations building. A visit was made to the unit by the new Operations Officer at Shearwater, Lt. Commander Bayes. Transport was via helicopter using the ball diamond as the landing field. Practice intercepts with F2H aircraft. The restriction of no armed interceptor practice intercepts for F-100, F-102 and F-106 aircraft has been removed except against SAC aircraft.

9 Aug 61

Big Blast mission conducted by the SAC 99th Bomb Wing. ECM from three B-52 aircraft with four F2H aircraft as interceptors. Good results. Practice intercepts with F2H aircraft. Remote control exercise with 4 CF-100 aircraft.

10 Aug 61

Big Blast mission as conducted on 9 Aug. Practice intercepts with F2H and CF-100 aircraft. Round House Alpha declared at 2324Z for exercise Desk Top IV.

Semi-emergency declared by an Argus aircraft returning to Greenwood from sea position at 0725Z. Hydraulic services were lost. Aircraft given flight surveillance until handover to Greenwood tower. Fleetwood 1 (Dakota 808) with the Air Officer Commanding Air Defence Command on board landed at Halifax International at 1615Z.AOC arrived at this unit at 1700Z for annual inspection of the station. Two pairs of F2H aircraft and one T-33 were under control for demonstration intercepts when the AOC visited the Operations site. Practice intercepts with F2H aircraft.

Fleetwood 1 with AOC on board given flight follow with subsequent handover to Sydney. This unit on Round House Alpha at 1853Z for exercise Sioux Noose. Practice intercepts with F2H aircraft.

9 Sep 61

Operating on CPS-6B radar only. The EW kit will be unserviceable until 11 Sep awaiting parts. Alert schedule implemented on declaration of Cocked Pistol at 1017Z for exercise Sioux Noose. During the exercise there was good activity in this sub-sector. Control was given to F2H and F-89J aircraft against 13 fakers crossing our area with good results. Exercise fade out at 1701Z.

No other information was available.

It was learned that the authentication code had been compromised. New authentication code in use for the remainder of September. Lateral Tell was received from Barrington during maintenance period for back-up radar.

A reported SIF emergency squawk was subsequently determined to be SIF malfunction. Moncton ATC was extremely concerned. Main radar became serviceable. However, several shut-downs occurred for equipment checks. The Station fire alarm system was activated by an over-sensitive sensing unit in Zone 12. While it was a false alarm, Fire Hall personnel reported to the Operations Building with minimum of delay. Practice intercepts with F2H aircraft.

Memorandum to all operations personnel indicating that dosemeters for recording radiation absorption will be issued in the neat future and worn while on duty.

Fire alarm system again activated because of the over-sensitive sensing unit in Zone 12. The unit was changed and further false alarms are not anticipated. Back-up height finder will be unserviceable indefinitely awaiting parts.

Information regarding Hurricane "Francis" passed from Boston Meteorological section. This storm has maximum winds at 90 knots. Position at 0400Z was 3800N 6440W.

Practice intercepts with F2H aircraft. ECM condition 1. Aircraft working 21 AC&W. VC 20740 returned with engine feathered. Surveillance given this aircraft until over to ZX range. Advised Soviet IL-18, call sign RPJUG, leaving Havana for Soviet. This aircraft will pass through the Halifax area. Landed at Halifax at 2035Z. Practice intercepts with CF-100 aircraft.

12 Oct 61

Soviet a/c off Halifax at 0835Z - carried as X676. Practice intercepts with F2H aircraft. CINC NORAD declares Double Take "A" re Exercise Sky Shield II. Practice intercepts with CF-100 aircraft.

CINC NORAD declares Round House "A" at 13/1000Z re Sky Shield II. STP exercise carried out.

At 0805Z CINC NORAD declared Fast Pace "B" re Exercise Sky Shield. Station alert was sounded at 0807Z with maximum manning and Battle Staff completed by 0828Z. At 1138Z, simulated Air Defence Cocked Pistol was implemented. At 1637Z, Big Noise "D" was implemented. This exercise carried on until Fade Out was declared at 15/0505Z. During exercise close liaison and support between this unit and CANAS.

The following is an outline of the activities of the Security Section for the period.

Door leading to Senior NCO’s beer lock-up found insecure by AFPman on duty. Area checked and door secured.

2 Jun 61

North door leading to Station Snack Bar/Grocery Store found insecure by duty AFPman on patrol. Mr. M Lively informed and the door was secured.

3 Jun 61

Discipline - 0035 hours. A civilian, Mr. AR Davis, Burroughs Defence Installations, was checked for impaired driving. Subject civilian had ran a stop sign, running his PMC in a ditch.

4 Jun 61

Loss - Complaint received fro SWO, FS Desjardins, to the effect that a RCAF issue blanket was missing from the Officer’s barracks. The incident was investigated by this office and the blanket recovered.

Discipline - Mr. FP Boultier, civilian employed in Station Steam Plant, was checked at the main gate for impaired driving. Subject civilian was later awarded a seven day suspension of duty for this offence.

Discipline - LAC A Baxter, FtrCop, was paraded before the Commanding Officer charged under Section 88, NDA. Found guilty and was awarded a fine of $50.00 and 14 days CC.

Theft - A report was received from Mr. Langdon, Burroughs Defence Installations to the effect that a person or persons unknown had stolen a transistor radio belonging to him from the Senior NCO’s dining room. Investigation by this office revealed that the subject civilian had merely misplaced the radio. It was recovered and returned to Mr. Langdon.

Fire - At 0015 hours, a report was received from the Duty Orderly Corporal to the effect that he had discovered one of the couches in the Airmen’s Institute smoldering. The incident was actioned by Station Fire Hall personnel. Damage consisted of a small hole approximately the size of a silver dollar. Apparently the fire was caused by a careless smoker.

15 Jun 61

Discipline - Mr. K Richards, civilian, Station Food Services, residing on Beaverbank Road reported that there were several service personnel creating a disturbance in a trailer rented by Mr. Baker, casual laborer, CE Section. Mr. Baker’s trailer is located immediately next to Mr. Richard’s residence. Mr. Baker was cautioned against creating any further disturbance.

Discipline - AFPman on patrol reported that a window had been discovered broken in the Station MIR. Access to the hospital could not be gained through this window.
VIP Inspection - 1600 hours. Staff from the Russian Embassy, Ottawa, made a brief tour of the Station area escorted by the CAdO.

Dogs - A complaint was received from the wife of Mr. M Rainforth, civilian employed in Station CE section, that a dog belonging to LAC Aker had attacked her near her PMQ. No injuries were suffered however LAC Aker was informed of the regulations governing the tethering of dogs on DND property.
Discipline - A telephone call was received from the Airwoman’s barracks block to the effect that a male prowler was in the area. The incident was investigated by the duty AFPman with negative results.

24 Jun 61

Damage - LAC C Moore, PMQ #104, reported that a person or persons unknown had cut the window screens in his bathroom and master bedroom on the night of 23 Jun 61. Investigation of the incident revealed that the damage was caused by Master Blair Todd, dependant son of FS GT Todd and Master Raymond Oram, dependant of Sgt. W Oram, FtrCop, this unit.

Discipline - A complaint was received from Mrs. Jewitt, PMQ #87, to the effect that she had apprehended a young child, 4 year old dependant son of FS Yearly, PMQ #97, in the possession of matches and in the process of starting a fire in the wooded area at the rear of the PMQ area. FS Yearly was contacted and advised of the situation.

Dogs - Report received from Blair Todd, dependant son of FS Todd, that his sister Rouilla had been bitten by a dog, owned by Cpl. FR Moffitt. Girl was bitten on right hand and right calf and was treated by N/S at Station Hospital. Dog was chained to garage at rear of Cpl. Moffitt’s PMQ as per SSO’s. Dog was taken to Halifax Veterinarian Hospital where a rabies test was conducted. Apparently negative.

Insecurity - Three windows in station hospital found open. Cpl. Lilje NCO i/c, advised and windows secured.

PMC Accident - LAC R Staples, FtrCop this unit, reports that he had been involved in an accident at Waverly, NS. He was accompanied by his wife and children, who apparently suffered no injuries. Accident investigated by Halifax RCMP.

13 Jul 61

PMC Accident - Report from RCMP advising that LAC JW Smith (OPMME) involved in a PMC accident near Kennetcook, NS. Cpl. JF Lacharite (Sup Tech) was sole passenger in Smith’s car. Other car involved owned by Mr. Rueben White of Upper Kennetcook. Both airmen treated for lacerations at HMCS Stadacona hospital. Cpl. Lacharite to remain in hospital while Smith released after treatment.
Insecurity - Window in rear of Supply Section found open by AFPman on station patrol. FS Thompson advised and window secured.
Discipline - LAC RJ Malone (Sup Tech) found asleep in his PMC parked in front of Supply Section. Ignition key removed as sleep appeared to have been induced through over-indulgence of alcohol.

Investigation - Cpl.’s Mallett and Donnelly to Stewiacke RCMP Detachment re accident investigation LAC Smith.
Discipline - Peter Desjardins cautioned re driving without license after being observed behind the wheel of Farmer’s Dairy truck. Driver also cautioned regarding children operating vehicle.

Loss - Mr. Lively reported loss of Grocery Store keys. Issued with a new set. Keys which were reported lost have been recovered.

Discipline - Reported by Sgt. Stokes that RCAF Station Gorsebrook ball team had taken beer aboard bus on leaving this unit after playing ball last evening. A course of action has been decided should such an incident occur again.

Discipline - 244121 LAC WJ Doucette, FtrCop, placed in open custody for drunkenness. Released from custody on authority of Commanding Officer in am.

Accident - Report received from Mr. GT Smith to the effect that he hit a child’s tricycle with his PMC in front of the Station store, causing considerable damage to the tricycle which had been left in the road. Tricycle is in the property of dependant child of LAC Reed. Arrangements have been made regarding situation for damage.
Security - Ring of keys left by F/L Morrow in cubby hole of Officer’s Mess. Keys would fit locks in Supply Section and for this reason were brought to guardhouse for safekeeping by AFPman as they were too easily available to unauthorized persons while left in the Officer’s Mess.

22 Jul 61

Dogs - Duty AFPman observed stray dog - once the property of LAC Bonevitch, SOS this unit. Inquiries were made and present owner of dog found to be a Mrs. Mosher, who was advised of the whereabouts of the dog.
Insecurity - Pop Cooler in Operations building reported to be insecure. As steward responsible for security not on unit, cooler to be secured as best as possible with pop cases being placed on top until return of steward. On return of steward shortage of $1.50 discovered, to be repaid by Operations personnel, who had consumed pop on an honour system, as the change box had been removed from the cooler.

Discipline - Mike Desjardin observed driving Farmer’s Dairy truck in PMQ area. Driver of truck warned regarding incident.
Medical - Nursing Sister contacted after report received from Cpl. DB Veale that LAW SF Hall required medical treatment urgently. Ambulance dispatched to Halifax with Hall.

26 Jul 61

Discipline - 244121 LAC WJ Doucette, FtrCop, appeared before F/L V Jewitt charged with drunkenness under Section 88 of the NDA. He was found guilty and was awarded a $25.00 fine and three days extra duty.

28 Jul 61

PMC Accident - LAC WC Hatt telephoned AFP to report an accident involving a PMC owned by LAC WF Benedict on Highway #2 near Shubenacadie, and another, Mr. RC Coates of Amherst NS. Both airmen sustained lacerations to face and head and were treated by Dr. McGinnis of Shubenacadie. A station wagon was dispatched with the Nursing Sister and the airmen were returned to the unit, apparently not requiring hospitalization.

Discipline - Report from Sgt. Yetmen regarding 3 visiting members of Sackville fire department, who were in the area of the airwomen’s parking lot. The civilians were located and escorted to the main gate. They left accompanied by several airwomen.

5 Aug 61

Report from F/O Brown, duty director, that the CTechO’s office was open and the key not in its usual place. The office was made secure by the AFP. F/O Brown also pointed out that the "U-bolt" located at the bottom of the filing cabinet in the EX-O’s office was located so as to enable the locking bar to be forced in an easy manner.

6 Aug 61

Damage - Report from F/O Belovich that five children in possession of a hammer in the Rec. Hall. The children were removed and no damage was found. Entrance was gained through the door left open by the pump and sewage.
Theft - Report from the CO of money taken from his pocket while he was swimming. Report was investigated and the life guard was told to keep a closer check on the locker rooms.

10 Aug 61

Attempted Theft - Report received that a small bike had tried to be stolen from FS Yearly by two children visiting at LAC Slanwhite. Children were seen putting the bike in back of their fathers truck. Close check to be kept if this truck appears on the unit again.

Drunkenness - A PMC was noted parked in front of the Rec. Hall. The driver of the vehicle was a civilian from the NS L&P ball team. He was under the influence of alcohol and was found lying in the ditch with his trousers down. His friends were told of his condition and they all immediately left.

Discipline - Sgt. Corrigan visiting from North Bay refused to sign out at the main gate and created a disturbance. He also attempted to force the AFP truck off the highway while proceeding down the Beaverbank Road.

PMC Accident - Reported an accident at the Airmen’s barracks parking lot involving PMC operated by Sgt. JC Matton and a PMC operated by LAC RA Grouette.

19 Aug 61

Fire - Request from Duty Controller, F/O Buckle, that WO LeBlanc be contacted as a U/S electric fan in room 303 of the Operations Building was overheated. Fire Hall was called and the fire fighters disconnected the fan. No damage to fan or wiring.

Insecurity - While on check of Rec. Centre it was found that three boys had gained entrance by maneuvering the lock on the east entrance and forcing the door. A warning was issued.

22 Aug 61

Insecurity - While on station patrol the north sliding door leading to the warehouse in CE section was found to be insecure. F/O Belovich was contacted and LAC Wallace secured the door.

23 Aug 61

Complaint - Reported by Nursing Sister Belovich that the McCollum’s in PMQ #99 are neglecting their children. The action taken was that a memo was sent to the CAdO regarding the situation.

28 Aug 61

Damage - Wayne Jeffrey, dependant child of Mr. Gerald Lively (civilian cleaner) reported that he had accidentally broken two small windows in the station snack bar. Memo submitted. CE effected repairs.

3 Sep 61

Security - Cpl. Gillmore, Officer’s Mess bar steward, reported he was several bottles of liquor, wine and beer short - after leaving his bar unattended for a few minutes. The stock was discovered to have been taken as a practical joke by F/O Burns and F/C Kay, and was returned to Cpl. Gillmore.

GMT Accident - Report of an accident involving RCAF Bus, Serial No. 88A30, operated by LAC Donald McLaughlin and a semi-trailer truck, property of Eastern Woodworks Ltd., New Glasgow, NS and operated by Mr. Boyd Jewers. Accident occurred on Highway #1 at Lower Sackville. Damage to service vehicle estimated at $500.00 and approximately $150.oo damage to civilian vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Insecurity - Gas pumps at Hobby Shop garage discovered to have been left operational after closing of garage.

Theft - Cpl. JR Nix reported that meal tickets had been removed from bottles left on his porch (PMQ #44). Burke children (LAC Burke) believed to be responsible.

Insecurity - Outside door to Orderly Room of CE Section found open. All found in order on interior check and door secured by AFP after SCEO advised.

Insecurity - Door to Snack Bar from Rec. Centre lobby found improperly secured. Interior checked. Everything appeared in order and door secured.

Fire - AFP on patrol observed smoke emitting from sewage disposal hut on Operations Road (Hut #22) and investigation revealed pump motor was overheating. Duty Sewage Operator and Fire Hall notified.

Fire - Smoke observed emitting from Hobby Shop garage. Fire Hall advised and siren was sounded. Practice smoke bomb had been set in garage.

Security - Firefighter reported hearing voices behind bar in Airmen’s Canteen after canteen supposedly had been cleared. AFP investigated and found LAC’s Bonenfant and Byham (bartenders) who stated they were filling the fridge with beer for handing over of stock the following morning.

Fire - Report of three false alarm fire calls in Operations Building, Zone 12.
Discipline - Duty AFP discovered a PMC, property of Cpl. FR Moffitt had been moved a short distance by persons unknown at the Operations Compound. Two Airwomen, LAW’s Hall and Mason had been in the Operations Building and left the Building during the time it is believed the PMC was moved. Hall and Mason both denied having any knowledge of Cpl. Moffitts PMC being moved. Due to the time of occurrence, between 0300 and 0400 hours, and because both Hall and Mason were in the area at that time, it is quite probable they were involved - although this is merely assumptive and neither conclusive or proven. Cpl. Moffitt reports the starter was damaged by responsible person or persons.

Discipline - 66566 AC1 Gordon Devries placed in close custody after apparently losing control of himself due to over indulgence in alcoholic beverages. Devries was examined by N/S and found to be merely suffering from consumption of too much alcohol. He was released the following afternoon from close custody without prejudice but subject to being charged. (Authority CO)
Fire - Two false alarm fire calls from Zone 12 of Operations Building.

Insecurity - Door to Station Library found open. Secured by AFP after check of interior revealed everything to be in order.

Discipline - 244121 LAC WJ Doucette checked by NCO i/c AF Police for ability to drive due to excessive indulgence in alcoholic beverages and also for having in his possession six (6) bottles of beer. Doucette was not considered capable of operating a vehicle and was transported home by AFP.

Insecurity - Refrigerator in Officer’s Mess found open. Inside were several bottle of beer and a glass containing a five dollar bill and several dollars in change. OO advised by AFP who declined to make stock check.

Discipline - Cpl. F Gillmore refused permission to sign out at Main Gate by duty AFPman as his ability to drive was impaired. No difficulty experienced with Cpl. Gillmore.
Discipline - Commissionaire Davis reported for duty accompanied by a young lady, Miss Bernice McCullough, of Halifax, who he had picked up on a road north of the unit - where she had been dropped by a stranger with whom she had accepted a ride. The stranger had apparently made improper advances to her and when she balked, he deposited her on a side road. RCMP were advised but Miss McCullough did not want to file complain with them so no further action taken. OO authorized she be transported on MSE bus to Lower Sackville.

Report received from Cpl. St. Onge, MSE Safety Supervisor, to the effect that AFP vehicle, driven by Cpl. Mallett, had been observed speeding on Beaverbank Road. However, Cpl. St. Onge would not back up charge nor divulge name of person who made the report. Two witnesses in AFP vehicle as passengers with Cpl. Mallett both stated vehicle was not exceeding speed limit.

Insecurity - Solarium door in station hospital found open. Duty AFPman obtained key from guardhouse and secured door. Apparently left open during the time F/O Belovich was moving.

Insecurity - Ignition keys for vehicle #500B20, parked in front of CE Section, removed by duty AFPman on patrol. Vehicle apparently left unattended after normal working hours.

Fire - Practice bomb set at school. Fire alarm sounded and AFPman responded with haste.
Insecurity - North entrance to Administration Building found insecure by duty AFPman.

Insecurity - Front door to Grocery Store from phone booth was evidently opened during day by some person. Investigation by AFP revealed that David Yetman dependant of Sgt. Yetman had released bolt lock during morning same day door found open by Mr. Lively. Apparently there was no stock missing. Master Yetman advised of the seriousness of his action.

18 Oct 61

Theft - Theft of a stop watch from the Rec. Centre reported by LAC TA MacKay (RSpec). Investigation of information given by LAC MacKay revealed that Mr. Ross Williams, a cleaner in the Rec. Centre had stolen the stop watch. RCMP were advised and Mr. Williams appeared in court where he pleaded guilty to a charge of theft under fifty dollars. He was remanded until 1 Nov 61 for sentencing, pending probation officer report. Awarded one year suspended sentence.
Discipline - The Commanding Officer turned over a bottle of Johnny Walker whiskey which he had confiscated from the Officer’s Mess bartender because it was diluted. Bottle retained at guardhouse and no further action by AFP.

Insecurity - South door of Administration building leading into CO’s office found to be not properly shut, although lock engaged. Classified document was found on desk.

21 Oct 61

Discipline - Sgt. ER Casavant, W&SSOp, was warned in regard to his leaving the unit after 1800 hours without signing out at Main Gate. Sgt. Casavant drove out from unit when Commissionaire raised the barrier to allow another car to enter.
Injury - Master Blair Todd, dependant son of FS Todd, received lacerations to his left forearm when he went through a glass pane in the door of the weight lifting room. Transported to Victoria General Hospital where he received treatment. Twelve stitches were required. Todd is to be assessed the cost of replacing window.

23 Oct 61

Investigation - Investigation into circumstances surrounding the pop machine in Rec. Centre basement which was reported to have been broken into met with negative results, although children are suspected of being responsible. In this regard the Rec. Centre has been placed out of bounds unless present with a supervisor.
Accident - LAC H Ruckstuhl, Canteen Steward, reported he back over a bicycle while leaving snack bar parking area. Damage to bicycle consisted of bent wheel, twisted handlebars and bent fender. No damage to car. Bicycle belonged to CO’s daughter. CO advised of this accident. No further action by AFP.

27 Oct 61

Discipline - Complaint received from Cpl. F Conway (Cook) that Cpl. R Ettingers dog was running loose and was also annoying his child. Referred to FS Hellard (Mayor of PMQ Council) who stated he would action complaint.

31 Oct 61

Traffic Violation - Mr. R Lalonde on International Water Supply warned by duty AFPman re excessive speed on unit. Observed by Commissionaire on duty at Main Gate speeding while approaching gate from direction of Rec. Centre.
Discipline - Mr. A Dumontier of Cribb Construction not permitted to leave unit in his PMC due to his impaired condition. PMC impounded in AFP parking lot.
Fire - Brush fires left burning at site being cleared for new tower flare up at 0320 hours. Fire Hall alerted and scene attended by firefighters who threw dirt on fire in vicinity of woods. Close check on area maintained by duty AFPman throughout the night.
Traffic Violation - Mr. R Handfield of International Water Supply checked by duty AFPman for speeding on unit.
Discipline - Firecrackers confiscated from children of Cpl. Northup, FS Hellard and FS Todd. Children ordered to return to their homes as it was getting late and they had been apprehended two previous times during evening with firecrackers in their possession.

Discipline - Sgt. R Roberts, Radar Tech, reported that his PMC, a 1957 Plymouth sedan, license number 57082, had been taken from his residence by LAC FP Tanner, AFPman, without Sgts. Roberts permission. The vehicle was recovered, same date, in the city of Halifax. Investigation revealed that permission to take the PMC was granted LAC Tanner by Mrs. Roberts, wife of complainant.
Security - At 1445 hours, LAC T MacKay, Rec. Spec, on the instructions of the NCO i/c AFP posed as a Cpl. Ray, in an attempt to gain access to the Operations Building through the normal entrance. Commissionaire C Davis accepted LAC MacKay’s story and issued him a pass. An alert was passed to the Duty Director and MacKay was apprehended on the second floor of operations.

3 Nov 61

Accident - At 2040 hours, a PMC owned by a Mr. Clifford MacDonald of Eastern Passage, NS, and operated by Miss V MacKay, RCAF Station Beaverbank, collided with the barrier at the Main Gate. The accident resulted in the lights and holding pin of the barrier being made u/s. The barrier was immediately repaired by the C&E Section.

4 Nov 61

Insecurity - Whilst on patrol, LAC FP Tanner, duty AFPman, observed that the lock on the north fire exit door of the Station Snack Bar was u/s and could be opened by a quick strong pull. The incident was reported to the C&E Section and the situation rectified.

6 Nov 61

Investigation - At 0001 hours, Sgt. Selensak, FtrCop reported that a person or persons unknown had marked up his PMC with a grease pencil. At the time of the incident the PMC was parked in the Operations Compound. The complaint was investigated by this office with no results as yet.
Loss of "I" Card - Mr. Bishop England, Pump & Sewage Operator, this unit, reported that he had lost his wallet containing his "I" card and personal papers. The loss occurred on his farm near Windsor, NS.
Discipline - LAC P Bowser, FtrCop, was paraded before the COpsO and charged under Section 81, NDA, and was awarded a fine of $20.00 and seven days extra work.

Insecurity - At 2100 hours, this date, the duty AFPman found the kitchen door of the Station MIR insecure. The door was secured by the AFPman and Cpl. Lilji informed.

Discipline - LAC K James was paraded before the CAdO and charged under Section 118. Found guilty and awarded a fine of $10.00 and seven days CC.

11 Nov 61

Fire - At 2105 hours, whilst on patrol, Cpl. RH Skillicorn, AFPman, had dispersed a group of teenagers from the area of the Rec. Hall public phone booth and on checking this area found the covers of the phone book to be torn off and partially burnt. Later information received indicated that Master Blair Todd was responsible for this incident.

PMC Accidents - Information was received by this office to the effect that on 10 Nov 61, 219759 Cpl. RW Armstrong had been involved in a vehicle accident in Lower Sackville with a Sgt. T Munroe, RC Army, Camp Aldersot. There were no injuries but damage amounted to approximately $1,000.00 to both vehicles. Also on this date, 214718 Sgt. W Oram reported that a vehicle had scraped the side of his PMC while it was parked in Dartmouth, NS. The person responsible failed to stop and report the accident to Sgt. Oram. Damage amounted to approximately $50.00.
Discipline - At 2235 hours, a report was received from Cpl. A Lilji to the effect that a Mr. R Flemming, civilian cook this unit, was causing a disturbance in the Airman’s Canteen. Investigation by LAC L Townsend, duty AFPman, revealed that Mr. Fleming, in an intoxicated condition, was complaining that he was suffering from a heart attack. Because the possibility existed that Mr. Flemming was in fact, suffering from a heart a condition, an ambulance was dispatched and Mr. Flemming transported to Camp Hill DVA hospital. Mr. Flemming later resigned his position as cook as a result of this incident.

Insecurity - At 2330 hours the duty AFPman observed that proper security precautions were not being maintained in the Central Warehouse and that entry could be gained with little effort. The NCO i/c CW was informed and the situation rectified.

Security - Commissionaire R Oldford, on duty at Operations Building observed Mr. Matthews of Cribb Construction about to take a photograph of the Operations Building (outside). Mr. Matthews was instructed on the security regulations regarding cameras in this area.

Insecurity - Whilst on patrol, Cpl. RH Skillicorn, AFPman, found the main door of the Supply Building insecure. A check of the building was made and the door secured. F/L Morrow, SSO, was informed of the incident.

Damage - A report was received from F/O Belovich, CEO, to the effect that someone had knocked over and damaged a sink and its plumbing attachments which had been stored at the rear of his PMQ. The amount of damage was estimated at approximately $25.00.

21 Nov 61

Insecurity - At 2335 hours, the duty AFPman found the south door to the Commanding Officer’s office unlocked. A check of the room revealed all in order and the door was secured.
Theft - LAC JL MacDonald, FtrCop, reported the loss of his service raincoat from the Operations Building. Investigation by LAC L Townsend, AFPman, revealed that the coat had been taken by mistake by LAC Meustace. The coat was recovered and returned to LAC MacDonald.

PMC Accident - Sgt. W Oram reported that LAC P Bowser, FtrCop, had been involved in a vehicle accident in Pictou, NS. Damage was quite extensive and LAC Bowser suffered lacerations to the head requiring 12 stitches.
PMC Accident - LAC R Schrouder, FtrCop, reported that he had been involved in a minor accident on the evening of 22 Nov 61. Damage to LAC Schrouder’s PMC has been estimated at $40.00. There was no damage to the other vehicle involved.

Insecurity - At 2000 hours, LAC FP Tanner, AFPman, observed that the anchoring post for the chain which has been utilized as a gate at the road leading onto the unit at the rear of the MIR had been pulled from the ground. This damage allowed access to the unit for anyone wishing to use it but had now been repaired by C&E personnel.

Mr. Matthews of Cribb Construction reported the theft of three rolls of large cable valued at $500.00. This incident is at present being investigated by this office and the RCMP.

Discipline - Cpl. GD Ryan, Refg/Tech, was admitted to close custody under authority of the Commanding Officer charged with having submitted a A133 with intent to defraud the Crown.

Discipline - Cpl. GD Ryan was released from close custody and appeared before the Commanding Officer to answer several charges in connection with his fraudulent claim, form A133. Cpl. Ryan was remanded to higher authority by the Commanding Officer.
