Section III – Chief Technical Services Officer
The following is an outline of the activities of the sections under command of the CTSO.

S/L CR Barrett assumed command of RCAF Station Beaverbank on the following dates: 12 Aug - 22 Aug; 13 Sep - 21 Sep; 6 Oct - 13 Oct; 17 Oct - 19 Oct; and 4 Nov - 18 Nov 63.
In July the unit stated SAGE Peaking trials and by August the Western Electric Company came on the unit to start SAGE Sub systems testing. The sub system testing was completed in Nov at which time the unit went on temporary SAGE inputting.

While RCAF Station Beaverbank is not scheduled to commence performing in a SAGE role until 1 Jan 64, satisfactory progress during September makes it appear likely that the unit will be prepared to accept its new responsibilities by 1 Nov 63. RCAF Station Beaverbank took part in a SAGE Tactical Evaluation exercise on 14 and 15 September. Observers at Bangor noted and commented on the high quality of the data from Beaverbank and the prompt and accurate work of our Height Finder operators. While Station Beaverbank has been making plans and preparations to accommodate 6 CU early in 1964, word was received on 30 Sep that all action was to be deferred for 1 year.

Unit assumed temporary SAGE condition until 1 Jan 64. FtrCops start manning DMCC. This unit was advised that effective 1 Nov we would no longer be required to maintain a surveillance and an identification function, however we will still be required to control interceptors as we will be on temporary SAGE condition unit 1 Jan 64. Since all FtrCop personnel will no longer be required in Operations, 20 personnel were assigned to CTSO for manning of DMCC, and 12 other personnel were misemployed in various sections on the station. These personnel are on a standby basis and we could be called upon at any time to revert to a manual state.

Operations staff worked with CGEO staff to coordinate complete handover of the Operations site to Technical personnel.

Section V – SGTO
The following is an outline of the activities of the SGTO Section for the period.

AMCHQ Provisional Manual Oct 62 received and passed to F/O Long SSupO.

During the month of July, the films "Electronic Warfare Ground Environment" (Confidential), was shown to all crews in Operations. Also seventeen general interest films were received and screened by all crews. These films are kept for one week and are obtained from The National Film Board of Canada in Halifax.

Remusters (suitable but not actioned) - ADCHQ advised there were 2 Airwomen considered suitable for remuster to Clerk Admin., however remuster will not be effected until the service need for FtrCop decreases.
Provisional TE’s - One provisional TE FF 3(P) received for LAC B Jolemore now FtrCop 3(O).

Accident - Cpl. Loisier involved in accident in Rockingham. RCMP attended. Nil action by AFP.

Accident - GMC accident in Operations compound. Drivers were LAC Rorai and LAC Fraser. MSEO and Cpl. Bernard attended scene with AFP.

Discipline - On information from S/L Keele, LAW Rikley was placed on open arrest by the duty AFP for being absent from her place of work.

Loss - LAC CJ Byrne reported loss of his wallet. Recovered same.
Fire - Fire reported at GATR site. AFP and fire fighter to investigate. Nil results.

Fire - Fire alarm sounded in Operations building. Electrical box had shorted causing smoke. AFP and Electrician at scene with Fire Hall.

Damage - Call received from F/L Belovich that four boys had caused a power failure by throwing rocks at insulators. AFP to investigate. Nil results.

Disturbance - Call received from OO that there was a party going on at PMQ 100 and he would like to have it quieted down. AFP to scene. Party toned down.

Accident - Commissionaire MacLean involved in accident at Mt Denson and will be in hospital for a while. RCMP attended scene. Nil action by AFP.

MC Accident - LAC CH Gould reports that he struck a pedestrian on the Beaverbank Road at Kinsac Corner. The pedestrian, Donald Gould, received injuries to both legs. Investigated by RCMP.

Security - Patrols discovered GATR site furnace room doors could not be secured as locking bar was u/s. Repaired by CE.

GME Accident - Cpl. RW Armstrong reports that his PMC was struck by RCAF bus 108A30 at Operations compound. $25.00 damage to GMT and $125.00 to PMC. LAC RC Cameron, MSEOp charged under Section 101(A) NDA and awarded a $25.00 fine.
