- Purpose:
To establish a procedure for operating the Fire Alarm System to assure immediate alerting of all personnel.
- Scope:
The provisions of this Standing Operating Procedure are applicable to all Switchboard Operators.
- Responsibility:
It will be the responsibility of a designated individual in the Communications Section to fully explain the operation of the Fire Alarm System to each individual switchboard operator, and post a detailed listing of the procedure to be followed.
- General:
- Daytime Operation: (0700-1700)
- When notified of a fire, the operator will immediately turn on the amplifier and power switch.
- Sound ten (10) second bell warning (BOQ, BQ’s, Supply)
- Sound ten (10) second Warble (Theatre, Mess Hall, Heating Plant, and Motor Pool)
- The switches for the Theatre, Mess Hall, Heating Plant, and Motor Pool will be left in the on position between 0700 hours and 1700 hours.
- Notify the Theatre, Mess Hall, Heating Plant, and Motor Pool of the location of the fire in a clear and understandable manner.
- Sound another ten (10) second Warble and repeat (4) procedure.
- Sound (10) second warble (all sections)
- Notify all sections of the location of the fire in a clear and understandable manner.
- "All Clear" will be given, when notified by the Squadron Fire Marshal, as outlined in paragraphs 3, 4, 5 6, and 7 above.
- Night Operation (1700-0700).
- When notified of a fire the operator will immediately turn the amplifier and power switch.
- Sound ten (10) second bell warning.(BOQ, BQ’s, Supply)
- Sound ten (10) second warble. (Mess Hall, Heating Plant, BOQ , BQ’s
- The switches for the Mess Hall, Heating Plant, BOQ and BQ’s will be left in the on position between 1700 hours and 0700 hours.
- Notify the Mess Hall, Heating Plant, BOQ, and both BQ’s or the location of the fire in a clear and understanding manner. Notify the Commander by telephone.
- Sound ten (10) second warble and repeat (4) procedures.
- Sound ten (10) second warble. (All sections)
- Notify all sections of the location of the fire in a clear and understandable manner.
- "All Clear" will be given when notified by the Squadron Fire Marshal, as outlined in paragraphs 3,4,5, 6 and 7 above.
- The Fire Alarm System equipment will be checked daily and immediate notification given to the Squadron Fire Marshal in any portion of the system is found to be non-operational.
- A Fire Alarm System Test will be conducted by the switchboard operator on duty each Saturday at 1130 hours. It will be clearly identified as a test by use of the following phrase prior to any Fire Alarm Signal: "This is a Fire Alarm System Test, I repeat, This is a Fire Alarm System Test".
