Bob Agar managed to visit the radar station at Dana in August 1998, and again in May and August, 1999. He made the following report: "I met Joe Saxinger, the present owner, in May 1999. He was not what you would call the friendly farmer type. He was on a tractor and unlike most farmers I have met on my trips, he did not even stop the tractor or get off and talk. He said I could take pictures and added he was getting tired of people visiting the old base. He had just bought a new section of land (640 acres) or so, to add to the base property. I talked to a young lad that was helping him. He indicated the owner was about 70 years of age and had over 200 buffalo, 16 young ones and 6 bulls for a total of 222."
"He does not seem to want to use or save the buildings, and it appears as if he just wants the pastureland for his buffaloes. The base buildings had deteriorated quite a bit from August 1998 to May 1999. The recreation hall and some of the other buildings are leaking and in very poor shape."
"I was at Dana for about 1 3/4 hours in May. I noticed when I returned in August of this year that there was a "No Trespassing, and Private Property" sign on the gate. It appears doubtful that anyone will be able to access the base in the future."
