June 1955 - Fishing for Arctic Char – Anonymous

The following detail has been extracted from the April 1955 to June 1955 Historical Report for the 926th AC&W Squadron at Frobisher Bay, NWT.

"Fishing, for which this station is famous throughout the Eastern Arctic, was an avocation with the majority of 926th AC&W Squadron personnel. The Arctic Char, a fish related to the tout family, were caught in hundred pound lots, cleaned and added to the frozen meat locker. Further, during this period, all visitors to this station were anxious to engage in this sport and their participation added to the enjoyment for this unit's personnel."

We have been fortunate to obtain a small number of photos which depict USAF personnel fishing for Arctic Char from the east bank near the airport river which was just over the hill from Frobisher Bay. The rapids were near the mouth of the Sylvia Grinnel River.
