1998 - A Visit to Goose Bay – Gillian Saunders

July, 1998

Greetings from Goose Bay, Labrador. My name is Gillian Saunders, and I am employed by a magazine called "Them Days", an organization that publishes stories of life in early Labrador.

I first communicated with Ren L’Ecuyer of the Pinetree Line web site on 20 March, 1998. He had obtained my work telephone number through the Internet and decided to contact me in the hopes of obtaining some detail on the radar station which was located in Goose Bay between 1953 and 1988. Ongoing communication occurred via telephone and the Internet. I had offered my assistance to the Pinetree Line web site and it was just a matter of time before Ren requested consideration for a visit to the site of the original radar station to take some photos of the remains.

So, in mid July 1998, two summer students from our staff proceeded to Dome Mountain and checked out the remains of the Melville radar station. The following photographs depict the situation as it exists today.
