Bob Agar visited Armtrong Ontario on 19 August 1999. He provided the following comments: "The road was good - paved all the way. It took two and a half hours to drive there from Thunder Bay. I was on the base for two and a half hours. The Operations site is abandonded and looks much like a city dump. Many businesses have come and gone in the past 25 years (the base was closed on 1 October 1974). There are many old trucks, buses, logging equipment, motors, old sawmill parts etc scattered all over.
The PMQ's have people living in them and it looks as if they have brought in some large trailers at the end of the domestic site on the right hand side of the road. There are a few people living in these units. I do not think that D-L Estates is doing too well. There were many broken and boarded up windows in the barracks. The hotel, laundromat and restaurant did not look as if they were being used very much, if at all."
