Holberg - who didn't serve at Holberg at one time or other? Curt Usherwood served at Holberg between 1971 and 1974. He lived in PMQs with his wife and children - one of which was a daughter "Carrie".

Fast forward to the year 1990 and CFS Holberg (RCAF Station Holberg to us "oldtimers") is finally closed. The station was (following established procedure) offered to Federal government agencies - with no takers. Then to Provincial government agencies - with no takers. Continue to municipal level agencies - with no takers, and finally, to the private sector with "no takers".

Final decision - the domestic site at Holberg would be razed to the ground. What a shame!

It is now 1991 - everyone has left. Nothing remains - with the exception of the "empty buildings". Hey - remember little Carrie Usherwood? She is now a Corporal in the Canadian Forces and is stationed at Comox. Carrie decided to make a return trip to Holberg and she took some photos during this visit. You should note the spotless condition of her old PMQ and the absence of people and cars on the streets.

This was April 1991 - and it wouldn't be too much longer before everything would be torn down.

  3. The sign says "Do not walk on the steam pipes" - April 1991.
We sure used to and we called them our highways. Where the sign, path, and steam pipes meet is where, with Sharon Hodgson, I learned how to blow bubbles with Cherry Sour gum.

  4. The front of our PMQ. There were no beeble berries remaining at the front of the driveway. I looked and was unable to find any - April 1991.
