Wednesday June 1st 1921

S Voisey, Morgan and Peter putting the clapboard on the oil house. Mark and Sukatie working at the Eskimo House. Abel and Peter's boy cleaning up the dirt etc. from around the buildings. Snow at books. Settled up M. of Alc today with draft for $109.14.

Thursday June 2nd 1921

Work going on same as yesterday. No arrivals.

Friday June 3rd 1921

Sam, Morgan and Peter finished the clapboarding today. Nashack and Abel at the oil. Mark and Sukatie working on the Eskimo House. Snow working at books etc.

Saturday June 4th 1921

Sam, Morgan and Peter putting the door facings on the Oil House. Other Eskimos at usual work.

Sunday June 5th 1921

Several cometiks came in to the Mission Station today.

Monday June 6th 1921

Got the Eskimos shifted up to the site of the depot in readiness to begin work on the building tomorrow morning. Nashack renovating his house. Abel at sundry jobs.

Tuesday June 7th 1921

Started work on the depot this morning. Got the foundation pieces cut ready to put in position. Tommy Jr. painting the addition to the dwelling house.

Wednesday June 8th 1921

Work continued on the depot foundation. Nashack and Abel working at the oil. Tommy painting. J Cutack and Son and Palleak arrived this morning.

Thursday June 9th 1921

Traded with J Cutack and Co. last night. They left this morning. Work going on as usual.

Friday June 10th 1921

Working at depot. Nashack and Abel attending the oil. Tommy hauling lumber up to the depot.

Saturday June 11th 1921

Finished foundation of the depot today. Gave Morgan and Peter a small advance. They intend going away on Monday. Paying of temporary labour etc. Bought 20 gallons molasses from Mission today.

Sunday June 12th 1921

Nothing happened worth noting.

Monday June 13th 1921

Working at the Depot again today putting down the 'Sleepers". Nashack and Abel at odd jobs.

Tuesday June 14th 1921

Sam and Snow making doors for the oil house. Mark and Tommy making steps for the door of the dwelling house. Morgan and Peter and families went off yesterday evening.

Wednesday June 15th 1921

Sam and Snow making doors. Mark and Tommy took Sutakie and family across to the mainland. A Ford (MM) fell off one of the mission buildings and injured his back.

Thursday June 16th 1921

Sam making doors. Snow working at the Inventory etc. Mark, Abel and Tommy at sundry jobs. Raining all day.

Friday June 17th 1921

Morgan, Peter and Willie Cutack came in today. They had nothing. Gave out about $20.00 advances between the three and they left again this evening. Sam at work on the doors. Snow at books.

Saturday June 18th 1921

A bit finer today. Went up to the depot about 9 am and started work. Finished the sleepers and cut the uprights in readiness for Monday.

Sunday June 19th 1921

Fine and clear. Resolution can be seen with the naked eye from the hill.

Monday June 20th 1921

Finished the uprights on the back and front of the depot today. Abel and Nashack working at the oil. No arrivals. Mark killed two seals yesterday.

Tuesday June 21st 1921

Working on the depot as usual. Put wallplates on and finished the uprights on the north end. Abel and Nashack at odd jobs.

Wednesday June 22nd 1921

Finished uprights on south end of building and got roof supports and roof-tree in position. Tommy painting. Abel and Mashack at odd jobs. No arrivals.

Thursday June 23rd 1921

Working at depot putting the horizontal beams in and cutting rafters. It is hoped that this week will see the frame work completed. Tommy finished painting the office (second coat) today. Nashack and Abel levelling a place to make an oil yard. Morgan, S Sukatie and Peter's boy came in today. Clear water can be seen from the hill.

Friday June 24th 1921

Working at Depot again today, finished beams and put on two sets rafters. Tommy painting oil house. Abel and Nashack at odd jobs.

Saturday June 25th 1921

Snowing all day, unable to work at Depot. Tommy and Mark putting glass in sashes for depot. S Voisey working at odd jobs and cleaning stovepipes. Snow at books.

Sunday June 26th 1921

Clear and fine today. Ice moving off.

Monday June 27th 1921

Working at Depot. Put about 1/3 of the rafters on today. Every rafter has to be spliced and this takes up more time than if we had longer deals. Tommy painting. Nashack and Abel at sundry jobs. Snow and Tommy went out this evening and klled a loon.

Tuesday June 28th 1921

Working at depot again today. Put 21 rafters in place. Eskimos at usual work.

Wednesday June 29th 1921

Finished putting rafters on the building today. Nashack sick. Abel at odd jobs. Tommy painting.

Thursday June 30th 1921

Raining all day. Snow at books etc. Sam fixing his kyak. Mrs. Voisey sick. Morgan, Peter and S Sukatie came in today. They want the loan of the "Flat" to transport their luggage down to the Cape where they inted to hunt this summer. Wind south. Ice driven off about 10 miles from the shore.

Friday July 1st 1921

Dominion Day. Raining all day. Unable to work at the Depot.

Saturday July 2nd 1921

Continues raining. Sam and myself made the flagpole today. Nashack, Mark and Tommy at odd jobs. Abel sick. Wind North West. Ice close inshore again.

Sunday July 3rd 1921

Nothing unusual occurred. Rain this morning. Clear this pm. Snow at books etc.

Monday July 4th 1921

Working at the Depot today, putting braces etc in place. Nashack attending at odd jobs. Abel sick.

Tuesday July 5th 1921

Commenced to put the sheathing on the Depot, finished about one side. Nashack and Able working at the oil. No arrivals. Ice cleared out of Fox Harbour today.

Wednesday July 6th 1921

Finished back side and south end of the Depot today. Other work going on as usual.

Thursday July 7th 1921

Finished boarding up the front side of the Depot today. Nashack working at the oil. Abel at sundry jobs.

Friday July 8th 1921

Finished sheathing the Depot this morning and started to put the floor down. No arrivals. Cold, North East wind which makes working outside anything but pleasant.

Saturday July 9th 1921

Working at Depot as usual, put about half the floor in. Paying of temporary labourers etc. Showery all day. Abel and Nashack at the oil. No arrivals.

Sunday July 10th 1921

Rain all day. Nothing worth writing occurred.

MondayJuly 11th 1921

Working at the floor of the Depot, finished about half. Abel and Nashack at odd jobs. We hear that old Skipper at Ryan's Bay died sometime in May.

Tuesday July 12th 1921

Finished floor of depot today. Other work going on as usual. Wind North West, clear and fine.

Wednesday July 13th 1921

Started working on the roof of the depot today. Put on nearly all one side. Bob and Phillipus came in from the Labrador side of the "tickle". Morgan, Peter and Sukatie came across from the mainland. Gave them a small advance. Average $10.00 each and they left again this evening.

Thursday July 14th 1921

Finished back side of the roof today and started on front side, but had to stop work about 9 o'clock owing to the rain. Nashack and Abel doing odd jobs.

Friday July 15th 1921

Continued raining today. Unable to do any outside work. Snow working at books etc. Sam fixing up the stovepipe.

Saturday July 16th 1921

Finished roof of the Depot, all except the felt. Had to purchase some from the custom's officer this evening, all our stock being exhausted. Paying off temporary labour etc this pm.

Sunday July 17th 1921

Sam and Snow went out to look for something to eat, and was lucky enough to shoot one "tinker".

Monday July 18th 1921

Working at Depot as usual, putting windows in and fixing up doors. Nashack and Abel working at the oil and at sundry jobs.

Tuesday July 19th 1921

Finished windows of Depot today and commenced putting on the felt. Temporary labour going on as usual. Mark killed a seal this morning. Wind continues South West. Ice close inshore all the time.

Wednesday July 20th 1921

SS Nascopie sighted noon today but owing to ice conditions is not expected that she can get into port till morning. Voisey walked out to the ship this evening. She is laying up for the night off the mouth of Burwell Harbour.

Thursday July 21st 1921

SS Nascopie came to an anchorage this morning and landed 15 boats and a small quantity of freight for different Posts to be forwarded per SS Baychimo. Messrs. Melton, Livingstone and McGibbon and five clerks are passengers on the Nascopie, also Reverend SM Stewart, Father Turkstil and two other Catholic Missionaries. One large Peter Head boat came for this place also a boat for the RCMP.

Friday July 22nd 1921

SS Nascopie sailed for Wolstenholme this am. Voisey and Eskimos fixing up boats, etc. Snow at books. PC Butler took passage on the Nascopie for Charlton.

Saturday July 23rd 1921

Snow at books etc. Sam and Eskimos at sundry jobs. Stiff breeze south wind. Ice driven off for about 5 miles. No sign of SS Baychimo or Chimo boats yet.

Sunday July 24th 1921

Reverend SM Stewart held services in the new oil shed.

Monday July 25th 1921

The 'Beaver' and 'Wte. Bear' arrived from "Adlolik" bringing Charlie, Etolat, Ambrose and Uncle. South wind continues. No sign of ship yet.

Tuesday July 26th 1921

Ship sighted this evening. Supposed to be 'Baychimo'. Sam and Eskimos at usual work. Snow working at the inventory.

Wednesday July 27th 1921

The SS Baychimo arrived this morning. Started unloading freight for Fort Mackenzie, RCM Police and this Post.

Thursday July 28th 1921

Work of unloading continued today. Everything on shore by 6 pm. Put a few packages which was landed from the "Nascopie" on board the "Baychimo" and she left again this evening 9 pm.

Friday July 29th 1921

RF Schooner in from Chimo today. Started loading up boats for Chimo with Fort Mackenzie Freight. D Edmonds installing an engine in his boat.

Saturday July 30th 1921

Some of the boats attempted to get away today but could not manage it owing to the wind, which was against them. Eskimos at sundry jobs.

Sunday July 31st 1921

Nothing unusual happened. Strong wind from South West.

Monday August 1st 1921

Charlie, Etolat, Ambrose and Long Johnnie left for Chimo with a load of freight for Fort MacKenzie. Loaded up D Edmond's boat this evening. Traded with Bob and Co. also Anoritik. Bob left for Adlolih this evening.

Tuesday August 2nd 1921

Mr. Heath and D Edmonds left for Chimo this morning, but had to turn back owing to the heavy wind and sea. Eskimos doing odd jobs.

Wednesday August 3rd 1921

Chimo boats got away alright today. Sam and Eskimos bringing cases from the Depot. Snow working out the cost landed.

Thursday August 4th 1921

Sam and crew bringing the coal down from the Depot. Anowtik and crowd got away today. Snow at books etc.

Friday August 5th 1921

Sam and athe "Huskies" finished the coal today. Snow at usual work. Nothing unusual happened.

Saturday August 6th 1921

Went out this afternoon to shoot some birds and got ten. Sam and Mark weighing trout. Snow at books etc.

Sunday August 14th 1921

Revillon Frere's Schooner "Dorothy G Snow" arrived in Port this afternoon and left again an hour later for Chimo.

Snow at books. Sam and Huskies clearing up the stores. Nashack and Abel at the fat.

Tuesday August 16th 1921

First cod fish caught today. Snow and Voisey marking the goods. Nashack and Abel at the oil. Mark and Tommy at odd jobs. Mark caught one codfish in "Fox Harbour" this afternoon.

Wednesday August 17th 1921

S Voisey, Sergts Wight and Joy and Snow went out to the Button Islands for a bear hunt. Sundry jobs going on at the Post. Nashack and Abel working at the seal-oil.

Thursday August 18th 1921

Bear hunters returned today with three Polar bears. Snow got one and Joy and Wight one each. Abel and Nashack boiling seal fat.

Friday August 19th 1921

Snow working at the books. Sam and the "Huskies" doing sundry jobs. Nashack and Abel working the seal oil.

Saturday August 20th 1921

The SS Baychimo arrived in Port 2 pm. Sam and Eskimos bringing freight etc from the Depot. Snow at books. Mr. Peters arrived on the Baychimo to take charge of this post.

Unloading cargo, straits returns etc from the Baychimo. Mr. Parsons and Mr. Miles on shore working at shipping bills etc. Snow making out Weights and Measurement lists for Burwell returns.

Wednesday August 24th 1921

SS Baychimo sailed for Pond's Inlet today. Messrs. Peters and Snow marking returns. Mr. Miles working at Fort Chimo books. Sam and Eskimos bringing the fire-wood from the Depot.

Wednesday August 31st 1921

Mr. Berthe in the Fort Chesterfield left this forenoon but had got only one hour out when she was forced to turn back on account of a suddent change of the wind. Messrs. Snow, Miles and Peters at work in office etc. Sam and Eskimaux fetching goods from the Depot, stacking fire-wood and usual odd jobs.

Blowing a gale from North West. Sam and Eskimaux making spare bed and fixing stove in spare bedroom. Messrs Snow and Peters making out Post requisitions etc. Mr. Miles at work on chimo books.

Friday September 2nd 1921

Dull thick weather - wind moderate and North Westerly. Sam and Eskimaux putting out seal net, fetching goods from Depot also out jigging. Messrs. Snow, Miles and Peters working on books. "SS Harmony" arrived in Burwell Harbour thuis pm.

Saturday September 3rd 1921

Dull and overcast, wind from North East. Sam and Eskimaux out jigging, stacking coal and firewood etc. Messrs. Snow and Peters at work in office, paying off temporary labour etc. AP Miles at work on Chimo books.

Sunday September 4th 1921

Weather remains unchanged. A schooner was seen off Burwell this afternoon and seemed to be finding difficulty in ascertaining her position, no doubt owing to the thick fog. After beating across the entrance of the harbour she eventually stood off again. She is believed to be the "Bondvin".

Monday September 5th 1921

Foggy weather. Voisey and Eskimo bringing goods from depot to port in morning. Afternoon jigging cod etc. Messrs Miles, Snow and Peters at office work. Calm and thick fog in the evening.

Tuesday September 6th 1921

Foggy in morning, wind North West. Voisey visited seal nets in morning. Rest of day cutting firewoood with Eskimo and bringing goods from depot. Messrs. Miles, Snow and Peters at office work. SS Narscopie arrived from Wolstenholme at 7:30 pm with Mr. Contley on board.

Wednesday September 7th 1921

Morning fresh South East breeze and overcast. Voisey and Eskimo assisting in taking off returns to "Nascopie". Messrs. Contley, Miles, Peters and Snow at office work. Dr. Robertson and apprentice Single went aboard "Nascopie" for passage to England.

Thursday September 8th 1921

Morning overcast but clear. Fresh N orth West breeze. SS Nascopie left at 10:30 am to catch tide through Gray's Straits. Two boats from the southward arrived today. "Charlie" and "Ambrose" reported killing two to four deer each. Voisey out to seal nets and bringing goods from depot. Messrs Contley, Snow, Miles and Peters at office work. Messrs Mark, Ritchie, Bradbury and Dr. Browne came ashore to await arrival Baychimo. Weather fine.

Friday September 9th 1921

Morning fine weather, light Westerly breeze. Motor boat "King George" arrived from Chimo for Mr. Miles. Mr. Snow and Voisey trading in store in morning. Mark visited seal nets. No seals. Eskimo jigging cod for Port Chimo, two barrels today. Messrs. Miles, Contley, and Peters at office work. Moravian Mission steamer Harmony (Captain Jackson) left at noon. Evening fine weather.

Saturday September 10th 1921

Fresh Southerly breeze in morning. Messrs Contley, Miles and Peters at office work. Messrs Ritchie and Mack and Dr. Browne jigging Cod with Eskimo, two and a half barrels today. Mr. Snow and Voisey trading in store.

Sunday September 11th 1921

This being the Sabbath no work done. Fine weather throughout the day. All officials attended Moravian Mission Service of Song in the evening.

Monday September 12th 1921

Fine bright day, sunshine throughout, calm. Voisey moving goods to depot for shipment by "Baychimo" and bringing back goods from the depot. Evening fine and calm.

Tuesday September 13th 1921

Wind westerly and raining hard. Voisey at various jobs around post. Eskimo repairing seal nets. King George crew jigging cod. Messrs. Contely, Miles, Peters and Snow at office work. Wind changed during afternoon to North East with snow. Eskimo in evening reported smoke seen from hilltop.

Wednesday September 14th 1921

Morning foggy with North Easterly breeze. SS Baychimo arrived from Cumberland Sound. Mr. Ralph Parsons on board, Snow squalls at intervals during the day. Voisey and Eskimo assisting in taking cargo off to vessel. Messrs Contley, Miles and Peters at office work. Day ends with fresh breeze and snow squalls.

Thursday September 15th 1921

Morning overcast but fine. Voisey and Eskimo assisting in landing spare bunker coal. Mr. Parsons ashore. Messrs. Miles, Peters and Snow at office work. Mr. Contely working on board. Day ends with fine clear weather.

Friday September 16th 1921

Morning overcast but fine. Wind North East. Voisey and Eskimo assisting in landing bunker coal from Baychimo. Messrs. Miles and Peters at office work. Bunker coal finished at 6 pm. 60 tons landed.

Saturday September 17th 1921

Morning foggy with Northerly breeze. Baychimo left at 9 am taking on board Messrs. Parsons, Contley, Ritchie, Bradbury and Dr. Browne. Messrs. Galt and Burgess and Burgess's son also sailing on her. These three men were landed by Nascopie being the Samson and Hubbard men from Wolstenholme. Mr. Snow also sailed being relieved at this post by Mr. Peters. Const. Brown of the RCMP sailed for St. Johns aboard the Baychimo. Voisey and Eskimo engaged unlashing Nascofies boats. King George sailed for Chimo with Mr. Miles on board at 3 pm. Afternoon and evening wind shifted to North West, fine and clear.

Sunday September 18th 1921

Fine in morning and throughout day. Fresh North West breeze. No work done. Evening fine and cold. First heavy frost.

Monday September 19th 1921

Morning moderate northerly breeze. First hard frost this fall. Eskimo mending nets and cleaning out boats. Mr. Peters at office work. Voisey overhauling motor boat.

Tuesday September 20th 1921

Morning fresh Northerly wind and ground covered with snow. Morning spent located site for new position of post. Eskimo at work on Mark's house and mending nets. Voisey putting out seal nets. Mr. Peters at office work during afternoone and trading in store. Weather evening fine but overcast.

Wednesday September 21st 1921

Fresh Westerly wind with drifting snowstorm. Mr. Peters at office work. Voisey and Mark attending to sealnets. Solomon mending nets. Mr. Peters and Voisey trading in the store during afternoon.

Thursday September 22nd 1921

Morning moderate Easterly breeze with snow squalls. Motor boat left for Button Islands at 10 am. Eskimo mending nets. Mark attending sealnets in morning and putting earth around his new house.

Friday September 23rd 1921

Moderate Easterly wind and fine. Mark attending seal nets in morning. Eskimo repairing and making nets. Mark in afternoon repairing roof of house.

Saturday September 24th 1921

Very fine calm morning. Mark finishing sodding up his house. Johnnie at sealnets (mending). Boat returned from Button Is. at 1:30 reported seeing one bear (which failed to get and few seals). Voisey in afternoon attending sealnets. No seals but plenty of shark. Day ends with very fine weather and frost.

Sunday September 25th 1921

Moderate South East breeze, overcast and barometer falling. No work done. Mission Service attended in evening. During night wind freshened to strong gale. Stove pipe blew down.

Monday September 26th 1921

Strong gale. Mr. Peters at office work. Voisey and Eskimo mooring boats in harbour, afterwards Eskimo making sealnets and repairing damaged stove-pipe. In afternoon strong gale with heavy drifting sleet and rain.

Tuesday September 27th 1921

Strong gale during night. Wood pile blew down. Wind moderating during morning. Rain all day. Mr. Peters at office work. Voisey and Eskimo making nets. In afternoon sealnets attended, no seals but one shark. Weather moderating and evening fine.

Wednesday September 28th 1921

Moderate Easterly breeze. Fine cloudy weather. Frost this morning. Eskimo Peter came in, also Johnnie and his son from the southward. Mr. Peters and Voisey trading in store during the morning and Mr. Peters at office work. Mark and three Eskimo digging trenches in Happy Valley for the purpose of draining site of post. Peter's boat left for winter hunting grounds taking Johnnie and Soloman. Morgan also left for sealing grounds. Voisey attending seal nets in afternoon (another shark), no seals. Six ducks and 11 partridges killed today. Evening fresh wind with snow squalls.

Thursday September 29th 1921

Light Southerly breeze and heavy rain in early morning. Long Johnnie left for winter hunting grounds with his son and Palleak. Mark and Eskimo digging trenches in Happy Valley. Mr. Peters at office work. Voisey at work in Happy Valley and attending seal nets. Afternoon calm and fine. Messrs Peters and Mack on a partridge hunt, killed 15 partridges and two ducks.

Friday September 30th 1921

Fresh Easterly wind, overcast and dirty looking. Mark and Eskimo digging trenches in Happy Valley. Mr. Peters office work. Afternoon South East gale with rain. Too rought to haul seal nets.

Saturday October 1st 1921

Strong gale from East Soth East with rain and squalls of hurricane force. Mr. Peters at office work all day. Voisey, Mark and two Eskimo mending nets and running out lines from the shore to motor boat and steam launch in case their anchors drag. Wind moderating in evening with heavy rain. Barometer 28.70 at noon.

Sunday October 2nd 1921

Morning calm and sunshine. Later during day cloudy. Owing to seal nets not being hauled (through bad weather) for three days Mr. Peters and Voisey attended nets. - and got one harp seal and the usual shark. Mission service attended in evening. Day ends with calm fine weather. Barometer 28.55 at noon.

Monday October 3rd 1921

Light South West breeze with snow and sleet. Voisey and Eskimo preparing for moving of Coal Oil shed to Happy Valley. Mr. Peters at office work. House shifted to waters edge and boats lashed ready for morning tide. Evening snowing, light breeze. 14 ducks and 13 partridges caught. Barometer 29.00 at noon.

Tuesday October 4th 1921

Moderate North West breeze, weather fine. All hands loaded Coal oil house onto lashed boats and it was towed to Happy Valley where it was put ashore in position. Afternoon building foundations for Coal Oil House and seal net hauled. No seals, but one shark as usual. Evening weather calm and overcast. Barometer 29.70 at noon.

Wednesday October 5th 1921

Morning light Easterly breeze. Motor boat left for Ryan's Bay with ammunition and sundries for Phillipus and Snoutuk and Iviga. Mr. Peters at office work. In afternoon schooner "Sohangen" sighted off harbour. Mr. Peters went on board and piloted her to anchorage. Mr. Lindau, Governor of North Greenland on board. The Captain reported having landed Mr. Knud Rasmussen at Lyons Inlet. Day ends fine. Barometer 29.40 at noon.

Thursday October 6th 1921

Morning calm and sunshine. Schooner "Sohangen" left at noon for Hebron going via McLellan Strait. After landing Mr. Lindau at Hebron, the schooner is going to Greenland and thence to Copenhagen. Wednesday October 26th 1921

Morning fresh Westerly wind. "Nascopie" arrived from Brigten Norway with 600 reindeer on board for Amadjuak, Baffin Island. Eskimaux visited seal nets in forenoon but got nothing. Repairing seal nets in afternoon.

Thursday October 27th 1921

Morning moderate South Westerly wind. SS Nascopie left for Amadjuak this forenoon, about 10 o'clock taking Sam Lyall with them as interpreter. Visited seal nets and got four seals. Voisey and Eskimo repairing seal nets, also getting fat puncheons ready to be taken down to Happy Valley. Peters at office work all day.

Friday October 28th 1921

Morning wind moderate and westerly. Eskimaux visited seal nets, the catch being four seals and two white whales. One net had to be taken up today for repair being badly torn up by the whales. Afternoon Voisey and Eskimaux taking fat puncheons - tanks and weighing machine down to Happy Valley. Voisey repairing motor boat in evening.

Saturday October 29th 1921

Morning clear and mild with light southerly wind. Voisey and Mark set off this morning about 40 miles down the coast taking with them a supply of dog food and fox bait which is to be cached there, as it is intended to trap them this winter from the Post. Eskimaux visited seal nets but got nothing. Afternoon. Eskimaux repairing seal nets, also at work on new one.

Sunday October 30th 1921

Dull and overcast with strong South Westerly wind. Josephs daughter, Papachee who has been ailing since this last spring, died suddenly this afternoon. Voisey and Mark returned this afternoon - all hands at service in the evening.

Monday October 31st 1921

Morning dull with moderate northerly wind. Voisey making coffin and getting grave dug. Eskimaux visited seal nets and got 10 which is the biggest catch to date. Afternoon all hands attended service which was held by Mr. Ling Lere before burying the coffin. Long Johnny's boat arrived towards evening with Willie, Solomon and Palleak on board.

Tuesday November 1st 1921

Morning cloudy, snow having fallen almost all night. Wind fresh and northerly. No seals were got in the nets today while one had to be taken up for repair. Peters and Voisey trading in store. Eskimaux taking motor boat engine apart - cauling up seams etc. Peters at office work all afternoon.

Wednesday November 2nd 1921

Morning strong wind from North East. Five seals were got in the nets this morning. Eskimaux skinning deer carcasses which were got off the Nascopie, repairing seal nets etc. Afternoon Voisey and Eskimaux taking all fat down to Happy Valley, also putting out seal net and repairing damaged one.

Morning clear, wind fresh and South Easterly. Voisey and Eskimaux at seal nets - Four seals being the catch for today. Eskimaux at work on seal nets, repairing etc. Afternoon everybody who could get off set out to put out their traps. Peters at work in office. Old women skinning seals and cleaning skins.

Friday November 4th 1921

Morning clear, wind fresh North Westerly. Four seals were got in the nets today bringing the total to date to 40. Eskimaux repairing seal net - repairing seal punt etc. Afternoon Messrs Peters and Voisey with two Eskimaux setting traps and putting down cache of fox bait. Women on Post out jigging, also cleaning seal skins.

Saturday November 5th 1921

Morning stormy, strong North Easterly wind and snowing. This ws our best day at the seal nets up to now, 22 being the days catch. Voisey and Eskimaux repairing seal nets. Peters at office work. Afternoon all hands off tending traps but nobody had any luck. Messrs. Peters and Voisey also rationing men on Post and paying labourers.

Morning, dull - wind moderate and South Westerly. Eskimaux visited seal nets today getting 10. All hands attended service at the Mission House in the evening.

Monday November 7th 1921

Morning fairly clear with strong wind from North West. Only four seals were got in the nets this morning. Sharks are beginning to come in again and are causing quite a bit of trouble, tearing up the nets besides eating out the seals. Voisey and Eskimaux at work repairing seal nets. Afternoon, a seal net which had to be taken up for repair was put out again. It was reported today that two silver foxes had been seen by the people around the Post.

Tuesday November 8th 1921

Morning light snow most of the day, wind moderate Northerly. Five seals were got in the nets today also two sharks. Voisey and Eskimaux busy getting last two nets ready for putting out. Afternoon Messrs Peters and Voisey along with two Eskimaux tended Post traps but got nothing, not even track of one being seen.

Morning, real winter weather - wind strong from North, snowing most of the day. Four seals were got in the nets today while two nets could not be hauled woing to the big sea running. Eskimaux making new seal net. Voisey repairing motor boat. Afternoon Voisey and Eskimaux tended a few of their traps, but got nothing - a few tracks were seen.

Morning, fresh North Easterly breeze with snow squalls. Seven seals were got in the nets today. Voisey and Eskimaux stacking seal carcasses, making skin frames. Mark and Abel also caulking the walls and roof of their house. Afternoon Messrs. Peters and Voisey with Eskimaux taking winch down to Happy Valley and clamping it in position ready for hauling houses up the beach in the spring.

Wednesday November 16th 1921

Morning dull, fresh wind from South West. SS Nascopie arrived from Lake Harbour about 8 am. Six seals were got in the nets this morning. Voisey and Eskimaux taking ashore some dunnage from the ship. Afternoon Voisey went across in the motor boat to Joseph's camp to get some people for working the coal which the Nascopie is to land here. Peter's getting ships accounts ready.

Thursday November 17th 1921

Morning, blowing hard from North East. Only one seal was got in the nets today. All hands unloading flour from ship and pulling up fittings which is to be put ashore as dunnage. Afternoon, a start was made to land the coal but after two lash boat loads had been lost owing to leaky boats, it was given up and work went on with the dunnage.

Friday November 18th 1921

Morning, clear, wind light and North Easterly. SS Nascopie left for St. Johns about 11 am. The nets were pulled this morning, sixteen seals being the catch. Voisey and Eskimaux repairing damaged seal nets. Afternoon Voisey taking seal fat down to Happy Valley and weighing it.

Tuesday November 22nd 1921

Morning, light South Westerly wind. Voisey and Eskimaux spent most of the day at the seal nets where a good haul was made, 21 seals being the catch. Afternoon, seals being taken up to Post, sealing punt being repaired. Women skinning seals.

Wednesday November 23rd 1921

Morning, clear, wind moderate and South Westerly. This was our record day at the nets to date, 24 seals being got. Voisey and Eskimaux spent most of the day at the sealing point repairing torn nets and caching the seals which could not be taken to the Post. Women on Post skinning seals and storing meat.

Thursday November 24th 1921

Morning, clear and cold with moderate North Easterly wind. Fox Harbour was caught over during the night. Sixteen seals were got in the nets this morning. Afternoon, Voisey and Eskimaux taking all seals up to Post, pulling up two boats got from Nascopie, and stacking dunnage. Women busy skinning seals.

Monday November 28th 1921

Blowing too hard to get out to nets. Sam putting up new stovepipe in dwelling house, cleaning out trade stove and storing seal meat for winter. Peters at office work. Abel and Nashack skinning seals, putting fat in tanks etc. Women on Post cleaning skins.

Tuesday November 29th 1921

Clear, wind moderate. Sam and Mark went out to seal nets but were unable to haul them owing to the heavy swell. One jar was got. Abel and Jimmy visited their traps but got nothing. Peters off setting out traps, also at office work.

Wednesday November 30th 1921

Overcast, snowing most of the day. Heavy slob is gathering in the Mission Harbour making it difficult to get around in the motor boat. Sam, Mark and Jimmy off to the nets with expectation of a big haul but returned at the end of the afternoon with only eight, having spent most of the time fixing the nets. Peters at office work and in store. Abel chopping firewood and skinning seals.

Thursday December 1st 1921

Blowing a gale from the South West. Unable to get to the nets today. Sam and Eskimaux storing merchandise in new store and getting it cleaned out. Afternoon skinning seals and storing carcasses under oil stove. Peters making coal box and trading in store.

Friday December 2nd 1921

Still blowing hard, cold and snowing. Impossible to get out to nets. Sam fixing kitchen stove and at odd jobs in house. Eskimau fixing wood pile which was blown down last night and skinning seals. Mark repairing motor boat. Peters at office work.

Saturday December 3rd 1921

Moderate but cold. Ice making in harbour. All hands set off for the nets. Thirty five seals were got all told, the biggest catch so far. Spent all day hauling them up at the sealing point and caching them under the rocks. One net which was badly torn up was taken up for repair. Evening Peters paying off Port labourers. Sam and Eskimaux repairing net.

Sunday December 4th 1921

Wind moderate from South East. Ice can be seen outside from the hills and within another week will no doubt be in for the winter.

Monday December 5th 1921

Everybody off to the seal nets. Spent the day at the sealing point hauling the nets and caching the catch under the rocks. Fourteen seals were got out. Putting out repaired net, and fixing others which had got torn up.

Tuesday December 6th 1921

Calm. Sam and crew off to the seal nets. Returned in the evening with a boat load, only half of their days catch which came to thirty nine. Peters at office work and odd jobs in house and store. Women busy skinning seals.

Wednesday December 7th 1921

Wind moderate from South East. Ice is coming in fast, within a day or two we shall have to take up the sealing nets. Sam and crew off as usual. The catch for today was twenty six. Peters at office work and trading in store.

Thursday December 8th 1921

Twenty seals were got in the nets today, but two nets had to be taken up on account of the heavy ice which has come in during the night. The rest will have to be taken up tomorrow. Afternoon, Sam and crew taking down boat load of fat to the oil house in Happy Valley, also load of seal meat for our use in the spring. Peters at books and trading in store.

Friday December 9th 1921

Sam and crew off taking up seal nets. Had to give up when it got dark leaving 2 to be hauled in the morning. Most of them owing to the ice had to be hauled from the shore. Peters off to traps but got nothing. Afternoon at books.

Philipus came in today from the other side with three foxes. He reports there being very few foxes over there and what there are are mostly colonized ones and very difficult to trap.
